I went to one in Montreal that was very eco-friendly. It was a hostel but it was me and my bf's first time backpacking so we got a private room. The private room was like this log cabin thing out in the backyard, like a little mini house. The hostel was awesome though. Everything was very natural and enviornmental friendly.
I was on a trip across Europe last year, and at one point we were put up in a hotel called the Dradnaught. I believe it was in Scotland.
It was your classic, scary movie hotel which clearly used to be a really old house. The front desk was run by a man who hadn't showered in a week most likely, and the dining room had odd entertainment on a nightly basis (interpretive dance anyone?)
Also, the hotel had an elevator. Without a door. It just went up and down, stopping at holes in the walls on each floor. Very scary when there wasn't an elevator there to step into.
The last part which i think is the best part was the room set up.
Your room was an oval, and the bathroom was a raised oval in the corner, about three steps up. There was not a real door, just like a stall bvathroom stle swinging door. The shower was a step down, also without any doors.
The whole experience was memorable to say the least.
