The Daily Beast has an
article on the country's best and worst airports—
check it out to see if your airport is on the list.
Here are the top three:
- George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston (pictured)
- Los Angeles Airport
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
And the bottom three (worst first):
- Newark Liberty International Airport
- Miami International Airport
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
I was not at all surprised to see Newark in last place, since I don't think I've ever boarded a flight from there that
wasn't delayed. And, unfortunately, I've never been too any of the top airports.

I like Intercontinental in Houston. I live in Houston, so I fly in and out from it a lot. It is a pretty nice airport.
I've been to the Miami airport and do definitely agree with it being on the "worst" list, but didn't really think it was THAT bad (it's not as bad as some say - or at least it wasn't when I went this past summer - went through the airport twice; were delays, but not the airports fault). It's just not a very nice looking place and doesn't have a nice atmosphere. *Shrugs*
What do you mean by "best" and "worst", I don't really get it. But the only airports I've been to are DFW and Corpus Christi airport, so I couldn't judge the ones that are actually on the list :p
@FIFA_World_Cup_2010@xanga - The Daily Beast made its list based on delays, safety, and amenities, but everyone has their own set of standards :)
@sarah@dollarish - Ooh, thank you!
ugh... I hate LAX and Sky Harbor... but whatever
Haha! Roadlesstaken mentioned there were so many good looking people in Houston when he stopped over on the way to San Diego :)
Also.... yup, I concur with Newark being in the bottom.. I used to live in New Jersey, unfortunately.
Newark is terrible oh my goodness. I think Atlanta is great.. O'hare is just crazy
I hate Atlanta airport. It seems like my longest delays have always been there. I'm a big fan of Port Columbus International, but that may simply be biased since it's closest to me and I always start journeys there.
I've been to three of the airports listed on the website. I hated Salt Lake City International (Mainly because they made me walk through a cold terminal when I got off my plane). Cincinatti had a really nice food court. Atlanta wasn't bad and my plane was not delayed...but I guess I got lucky. hah SFO I liked, mostly, except for the longass security check-in line.
I've been through LAX and Phoenix and had good experiences, but I haven't been through Houston.
As for the worst airports, I agree that Newark is really bad. I've also had horrible experiences with Denver and Chicago.
Dubai's airport is the worst!!!!
People waiting have to sleep on the floor.
So the deeper you go on the more your afraid to step on someone waiting for an airplane!
Why don't they just make seats
George Bush Airport, HAHA are you serious?! Im not surprised Newark is the worst--c'mon take a look at Newark! I've never really had a bad experience since I don't travel much but PA is good! so is El Paso.
Oh no, and to think on Friday I have to stop in Atlanta for a connection later on.
I've been to the Phoenix airport and it really is one of the best. LAX is really nice as well.
I agree that Newark is one of the worst. I haven't flown from there since I about 9 but I do remember the people working at the airport being rude. Same with Philly Int'l. I hate flying out of there. Most of the employees look like they wanna kill someone.
Since starting college, I fly b/w my school and Miami, four times a year. The times I've used MIA hasn't been bad at all. My worse experience traveling was from the tiny airport near my school, Hancock. Since there were problems with the plane, which took forever to figure out we had to be rechecked in and put on different airlines. I had a layover in Chicago that took forever.
I also dislike LAX its huge and hard to navigate and the lines are always 5554232897856342267 miles long no matter what time you get there or when your flight leaves. I really like washington-dulles, it was clean, comfy, and so easy to navigate. also i like bradley international in hartford :)
I LOVE AIRPORTS!!!
This might sound a lil' biased but I think Hong Kong's airport's one of the best :)
@feathereyecandy@xanga - Nope, i like Singapore Changi international airports more than Hong Kong's :)
I'm surprised Chicago and Detroit aren't listed as worst....they're horrible. Absolutely horrible.
I live in Houston and love their airport. Cleveland is pretty nice too.
I think LAX is one of the most boring airports and badly laid out. Want a burger? You'll have to walk a mile to the next terminal because only one restaurant is in each terminal area. Personally, I like Atlanta. Spokane actually has a nice little airport. I'm surprised Philadelphia isn't on that list. Every time I fly into that airport I am delayed. Honestly, I will pay an extra $50 to NOT fly through Philly. I agree with Miami though. Had to go through customs in Miami last month and my group and I were pulling our hair out. No signs, rude people, badly laid out, terrible paging system, lost my luggage, etc. etc. etc.
Tampa International is a beautiful airport. Very spacious and has a relaxing atmosphere. However, it is the only thing worth visiting in Tampa :P The rest of the city sucks.
Laguardia is probably the worst I've been to, just way too crowded and hectic. I don't think I've ever had a seat to sit in while waiting for my flight. I don't think I've ever had a flight leave on time from that airport, either.
well , since i`m forced to always use hartsfield , & there`s only been one time in my life where i`ve had a delayed flight leaving there , i can`t say anything about it . idc , i don`t even travel much , but when i do , it`s not even that bad , but i can see how it made a list , but only because it`s the world`s busiest airport . . .
Midway was rated decently. O'Hare, not so much. Not surprising... I think it may have something to do with being the busiest airport in the world, and errors multiply just by virtue of volume.
i cant stand the miami airport. ugh, it's horrible. same with o'hare in chicago. i dont really have a favorite one.
