  • Zelda the NYC Turkey becomes a Holiday attraction

Before Tammy the NJ Turkey, for 6 years, NYC was home to Zelda the wild turkey. Named after F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife, Zelda the wild turkey is kind of a big deal. (Named because legend says during one of Zelda Fitzgerald's nervous breakdowns, she went missing and was found in Battery Park, apparently having walked several miles downtown.)

She is so epic that Wikipedia even has a page about her. Miss Zelda resides in Battery Park, on the tip of Lower Manhattan. This wild turkey is a true traveler; roaming around the city streets.

Since mid-2003, she entered Manhattan from the Bronx and traveled South. By 2004, she ventured to Tribeca before being returned to Battery Park. In 2007, she returned to Tribeca and Greenwich Village. I guess she wanted a taste of the NYC nightlife. She was spotted November 22nd in her hometown. New Yorkers and tourists adore her and took the opportunity to snap pictures of this famous turkey.

Now, why haven't I bumped into this NYC celebrity? I'd be ecstatic if I saw Zelda the wild Turkey. Only in NYC can you have wild turkeys roam around freely.

New Yorkers: Have you seen Zelda the turkey? Who'd win in a fight: Zelda or Tammy the Turkey?
