New Jersey is home to a lot of things. It's known for lots of malls, strange smells and turkeys gone wild. In the last month, Tammy the turkey has been running along a section of the NJ Turnpike.
Spotted near Jersey City, NJ by exit 14B, Tammy has been dodging traffic and Wildlife officials that have been trying to capture her.
Perhaps she is scared of being cooked for Thanksgiving dinner. I don't blame her! Run, run, run as fast as you can! She could be trying to go back to her native home of Staten Island. (Hm, she seems to be going in the right direction, just go towards the Bridge!)
Miss. Tammy has been causing lots of traffic, which makes rush hour even crazier on the very busy Turnpike.
Luckily, she was caught over the weekend and safely transported to a South Jersey zoo where she will reside with Gobbler the male turkey. (Not a bad deal Miss Tammy. You get yourself a handsome male.)
If you live in the area, did you see Tammy the turkey? What would you do if you saw a wild turkey on the road?Source Image Source

I see more turkey vultures than turkeys in New Jersey
really? there's turkeys in zoos?
there's a brood of turkeys that wonders through my yard periodically, so i'm a bit amazed about the zoo. whatever floats your boat i guess.I've definitely had my car nearly attacked by wild turkeys at least twice in Princeton, NJ haha...it's hilarious now but at the time I was sure everyone of my nightmares had come to fruition - they're very ugly creatures that wildly fly/walk (some weird combo of the two, kinda jumpy) and they're worse than deer when caught in the headlights
I think the goal IS to hit the bird.... so it can turn to something GREAT!!!!
I've seen wild turkeys on the road before. I drove around them.
I don't celebrate Thanksgiving and a turkey is just another animal for me. People should leave turkeys alone and let them free in the wild.
Uhh, I LIVE in Burlington, NJ and they're in the backyard of my apartment complex a lot. There's no reason for them to be in the zoos.
