In summer of 2008, I was lucky enough to take a cruise through the Caribbean islands, and our last port of call was at the British Virgin Island of Tortola. My friends and I booked an excursion to go kayaking there. This was our first time ever kayaking and not only did we not know what were doing, we were also going with a bunch of professionals.
When we arrived (by our glass-bottomed speed boat) to our place of adventure on Peter Island, our tour guide gave us a two minute lecture on how to kayak and pointed where we should meet him and said, "meet me there in 10 minutes." Unfortunately as we paddled and paddled, the wind blew harder and harder, and quickly did we realize that this was not exactly going to be easy. We eventually made it to the meeting place and then paddled on back but it got me thinking about all the places I could have kayaked at home or on vacation, and how fun it really can be once you get the hang of it.
photo of Tortola, B.V.I. Have you kayaked? If yes, tell us where!

I first went kayaking when I was about 13 or so up in Canada. Every year I went up north to Jake's Blue Roof Cottages in Campbellford, Ontario with a bunch of friends. We'd rent a few cabins there every summer. I bought my own when I was 14.
In the lagoon of Aitutaki (Cook Islands) and rivers/lakes around here.
I've gone in the Hudson River.
