Comparing Supermarket prices in different Countries
On a vacation, even if we are going all inclusive, for the last few years, there are a few items we still buy such as mineral water, soda/pop and chocolate. We do this by going to the same type of supermarket as in the UK. Sometimes we can find the same supermarket branch abroad as in the UK so it makes it easier to compare prices back in the UK.
Sometimes we are amazed that some items are more than in the UK and sometimes cheaper.
We always like to check out the items we cannot get in the UK brand of the supermarket chain.
Usually on holiday we go the nearest. supermarket and buy our mineral water, soda/pop and chocolate, and whatever we want to buy.
When we went self catering we always try to shop around; however if we did a big buy, we went to the nearest supermarket.
Have you even compared prices in the supermarket when going outside of the country you live in?

I've actually been to a supermarket in the Dominican Republic.
I'm pretty sure the prices were pretty high, if I remember.
I've also been to ones in Europe, and don't even get me started on THOSE prices.
That's actually one of my favorite things to do while I travel. Where I live groceries are so cheap everywhere else seems too expensive.
You like to use "UK" in your sentences, don't you? :P
I shop at Waitrose. Lovely place. Isn't as expensive as people make out!
When I went to the Cooks in 07, we went shopping for food and I was shocked as heck to see orange juice that sells here for $3-4 on the shelf for $12. Had to keep walking after seeing that sight!
I shop at Asda and Co-op... and sometimes Netto... LOL :$
It's always quite interesting to see the differences.
We were delighted to find that wine was as inexpensive as bottled water in France in the supermarket. And it was good too!
I compare prices all the time in China! For the most part, the food is cheaper BUT foreign foods are more expensive and also sold in less quantities.
BUTTTTTTTTT...foreign food also tastes better (!?!?!) in China. For example, the Sprite tastes a lot sweeter due to the fact that China uses actual sugar in their soft drinks and America uses high fructose corn syrup. :|

I have not the soda is more sweeter when I went to Canada, Mexico and United States, to what I am use to back in the UK, even though I dont drink much now. Also in Europe I do find a different.
I don't pay much attention to prices (since it's hard to do a true comparison when you incorporate local wages/salaries into the equation) but I do notice brands and their different interpretation in different countries!
