On a Southwest flight en route to San Jose, CA, a rowdy 2-year-old child did not get away with just being a kid. The loud and rambunctious child kept screaming for the plane to go and called for his "daddy", leaving passengers and aircrew very annoyed.
The child and his mom were kicked off the plane. The mother of the child is angry and wants an apology and compensation for the portable crib and diapers she had to buy for the extra night away from home.
Southwest constituted the decision by claiming the aircrew must do whatever possible to resolve the situation.
Should the mom and child have been kicked off? What would have been the best solution?For more information

It depends on just how bad this kid was.
Yes, if the mother could not manage to quiet the kid with all means at her disposal; be it bribery, threat, or discipline. If kid can't be controlled on any form of public transportation, then kid needs to be taken via private transportation.
Yes, the passengers shouldn't have to suffer through that obnoxious brat. And when kids act like that, the parent really isn't doing all they can to discipline that kid.
@WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga - I totally agree
at the end of the day, the airline makes the decision whether you're flying or you're going home. i don't think there are any apologies necessary. i'm not one to say this kind of stuff but the mother should learn how to control her child.
@Ampbreia@xanga - agreed.
The kid is two. There is only so much you can do to "control" a child's behavior at that age. They are prone to tantrums, especially when in a new environment. It doesn't sound to me like the child was being excessively loud and obnoxious... sounds like the airline crew had something against children who act like, oh, guess what? CHILDREN!
This is why mothers need to punish-- I MEAN DISCIPLINE their children. Obviously when they behave like spoiled shit, though.
We were all children once and if we cannot tolerate small child's tantrum we are doomed.Â
its kinda hard. think about this. if mother performs corporal punishment, she could well get into jail. Which could be what the kid wanted. Sigh. what can i say. The kid must be EXREMELY hopeless to get kicked off,
@mycontinuity@xanga - Obviously none of you have had any children before. Please travel with a two year old first or any child under the age of 5 then open up your mouths and speak. Then and ONLY then you should get the right to give us your knowledgeable opinion. Undoubtebly the airline will be sued for their genious act and I cant want to see how much they will pay up for their stupidity!!!
@Sandra - I work with children, not that it's any of your business.
Airlines are in business to make money. If they cater to the one disruptive passenger to the annoyance of all the others, they will probably lose market share. It's not reasonable to expect any business entity to engage in unsound business practices. They are not a government agency.
Might I suggest that parents not subject young children to environments that they are not mature enough to handle?
