Image SourceNow that Halloween costumes are 75% off at all retail stores, we can return to our normal selves and try to get all of that Halloween makeup off our face. For Latin Americans, the holiday isn't over yet. The Day of the Dead, or El Dia de los Muertos is a celebration of remembering friends and families who have died.
Today is also All Saints Day and tomorrow being All Souls' Day also goes with the celebration of The Day of the Dead.
It is believed that on this day, it is easier for the souls of the departed to visit the living. It makes it easier to communicate to the dead souls. Families tend to visit cemetaries to bring photos, memorabilia and favorite foods for the departed.
Have you ever heard of this holiday? Do you celebrate it?

I WANT to celebrate it now that I know about it. Sounds more legit and real than halloween.
I know about it, but I never celebrate it. Wouldn't mind though.
I'm minoring in Spanish, therefore, I've learned a lot about Hispanic culture...so...yes I've heard of it, but haven't celebrated it. Though, I think it'd be fun.
mmm, candy skulls....
i've heard of this holiday and i really want to start celebrating it
we celebrated it in junior high spanish class/club. we made those shrines, and baked skulls out of weird dough, which i still have, and pinatas, and those paper banners and all sorts of stuff. our teacher made it into a huge project, so it was really memorable, really cool, and it taught us a lot about the culture.
actually, if i remember correctly, we even had to write obituaries in spanish...this teacher REALLY loved halloween and such...
