  • Did You Have A Treehouse?

You see them in movies and on television and for some reason, they seem like something everyone has.

If you grew up in NYC like I did, tree houses were not common for obvious reasons. To this day, I've never been inside of one.

They seem to look pretty cozy from what I've seen in the media. Its a nice little getaway from the house, you can have secret boy hating clubs or even sleep in it when you're locked out. I could use one of these!

So my question goes out to anyone who lives in a house or in the surburbs:

Did you have a tree house? Did I miss out on anything?

I wish. Maybe I will try to build a tree house as a project one day.

I always wanted one but I didn't have that forest type of trees in my backyard. lol, imagine my one palm tree with a tree house.

kind of... it was part of our swing set, but it looked like a treehouse and it was under some trees, so we just called it a treehouse xD

I did have a treehouse growing up. I helped three of my brothers build it. We held secret meetings in it, had races climbing the tree, fought for custody of it when we were having arguments, and slept in it most of the summer for years. Eventually we had to take it down, by order of our parents, because my brother Dan climbed under it, fell off the branch, broke his leg. But while we had it, it was a favorite place to hang out, and an amazing addition to our lives.
I wouldn't say you necessarily missed out, though; fun is what you make it, and we could have done all those same things on a front porch.

My older brother, my older sister, and I made one in the chestnut tree in our backyard out of old planks, a ladder and some nails, and did a pretty good job of it for being 14, 9, and 7 at the time and not having adult help. It's currently overgrown, but still accessible... mainly, it was a place to escape from our annoying younger cousins whenever they came over, because they weren't allowed to be twenty feet up a tree XD
