Google has changed everything in the world around us. We have Gmail, Google Maps that give us transit directions in major cities and Street View, probably the coolest part of Google Maps.
If you've been living under a rock and have not checked out Street View, do us a favor and continue reading! Street View enables users to get a glimpse of the street they are trying to navigate. No more getting lost and wondering what landmarks are near your destination.
It can also be the greatest thing to do when you're procrastinating your homework. There is nothing like doing street view in other cities and countries. (Try doing street view in Tokyo, Japan. It is absolutely nuts!)
Now, we all are wondering, who has the time to shoot all these photos? The photos have a 360 degree dimension as well, so that means capturing every angle, up, and down and all around!
Meet the Google Trike:
His job is to ride this trike and basically enjoy the ride! The attatched camera captures the photographs for Street View! Talk about a great workout!
Google is even sponsoring a contest for the next place the Google Trike will go. They will be accepting ideas for US locations until Wednesday October 28, 2009. The public will then be able to cast their final votes and choose the top locations for Street View!
This is pretty freaking cool. I was just checking out the 360 view on Google the other day and was wondering how they get such good street views. My first thought was satellite, but logic won on that thought =]
@black_lie@xanga - I think they do, and this trike is new. I've seen photos of the Google Van b4. Maybe Google is going green? lol
My boyfriend and I were actually talking about this not too long ago..Wondering how they do it. That's pretty cool!
