Yesterday afternoon, news channels interrupted local programming for breaking news about a strange story. Apparently, a 6 year old boy was thought to have been in a weather balloon that floated away from the family home.
The strange part was that video was caught of the basket falling from the sky, but no child to be found. Everyone thought of the worse and could not find the child.
Luckily, this story had a happy ending. A few hours later, the child was found hiding in the attic of the garage; scared of being yelled at by his father for playing with the weather balloon.
I guess the little kid was already looking for more adventure in his life. Although we are glad the outcome of this story is positive, Where were the parents? How could this slip under their radar? If you're going to have such a dangerous apparatus in your backyard, be more careful about it!
Some speculation is going around that it was a publicity stunt. The family was on the ABC reality show "Wife Swap" Perhaps they wanted 15 more minutes of fame.
What are your thoughts?

Erm, there is a news article about this dad being really upset because people keep asking him if he did this as a stunt. How hard is it to just believe that someone didn't know where their kid was and just did the safe thing to be sure he was OK? Is it just 'cuz he likes to make balloons?
I don't think this had a "happy ending". Other events in the world were taking place, and this HOAX and possible publicity stunt became the front and center of the news for a long time.
I actually saw the episode with this family in it and this guy is just ridiculous! With him, I don't doubt he don't doubt that he doesn't think it was a publicity stunt since his sense of what's normal and what's ridiculous isn't like everyone else.
I'm annoyed with the little boy because he was hiding for 2 hours. What was so hard about going to find his parents so they could call off the chase after that weather balloon? I get that he was probably scared, since I'm pretty sure he wasn't suppose to be playing around with his dad's things, but hiding for 2 hours? But, that's just me.
@importantnonsense@xanga - There is a link floating around with an interview with the family where the boy said that his parents told him that it was "for a show" or something to that regard. So it is a possibility that he was told not to come out because of said pubilicity. It's really hard to say.
They were on some interview show or such after this even and the kid said, "Um, you guys said that, um, it was for...for the show." Makes you wonder, eh?
