Disney Dreams: Fallen Princesses
With Disney on the mind, I thought about my favorite female heroines growing up. For some reason, Sleeping Beauty was my favorite Disney princess. Maybe because I liked to sleep a lot as a kid. But seriously, I thought she was so beautiful and probably had the cutest Prince Charming of the bunch.
I think about the effects of Disney movies and what we expect out of life. We all look for a happy ending and put ourselves to their standards.
Then I found these pictures. It is a great photo shoot portraying fallen Princesses. I guess when the happy ending isn't so happy.
Cinderella is down in the dumps and is hitting happy hour.
Poor Rapunzel lost all of her hair from Chemotherapy :(
Little Red Riding Hood couldn't wait to get to Grandma's house and stuffed her face with McDonaldsSleeping Beauty took too much Ambien and is probably not waking up anytime soon.
Snow White has a dead beat man and too many kids.

Why would Belle need to fix her appearance? Isn't her man the Beast?
Princess Jasmine is serving in the war. Or is she a terrorist?
Poor Ariel is part of the Aquarium. If only she could be part of our world.

Sad pictures.
I have a couple though they aren't princesses:
Mulan tries to be the modern day working woman since the metrosexual man is a lesser archetype to apply in corporate combat.
Pocahontas falls in love with her arch nemesis the corporate CEO prince working against the green agenda. She is taken away from nature so it is depleted for vile mass consumption.
I'm sorry, but Jasmine in that photo above is HOT, especially with that AR. It's too bad she's retarded though, and carrying around 7.62mm NATO draped over her body. But whatever, still hot.
My favorite is Belle. I'm still looking for my Belle.
I like these pictures...but WTF does this have to do with Tripcrazed?
@cutesycharm@xanga - I was wondering the same thing! Seems more fit for Lovelyish, since it's about princesses and all...
This post reminds me of that song "Fairytale" by Sara Bareilles. I always loved Ariel and Belle growing up, but this post does give me a new perspective...interesting how, in the damsel-in-distress Disney world, the princess was always in trouble, yet always in the spotlight. We know virtually nothing about their dead-beat princes, except that they're handsome and always conveniently carry swords to kill serpents and witches and God knows what might be hiding in the bushes...
i laughed at snow white's one.
In this a trip down Not So Fairy Tale land??
it was Mulan but now it's Princess Tiana haha @Parsimony@xanga - Yes Mulan is my favorite as well.
@chow@ireallylikefood - is it cause you are a Beast? ... joking joking
My favourite used to be Alladin and Jasmine... I hated Little Mermaid yet used to watch the show everyday :S
@dianchik_icons@xanga - LOL actually funny you mention that, because I really do feel like Beast a lot of the time. It's one of the reasons Beauty and the Beast appeals to me so much. Not only do I adore Belle, but I love Beast's home, and well, I just identify with the fella in many ways. :)
Awww. Belle would least be likely to do that too :( but Jasmine looks like she can totally kick ass. that's a pretty hot picture.
LMAO
those bitches had it coming. My favorite Princess has always been Belle. Srsly, my old room in northern California had a ton of Beauty & The Beast stuff. XD
I didn't look to fairy tales and Disney movies as a "guideline" for what I'd like my love life to be like. I guess even as a kid, growing up a Disney fan, I've always remained realistic.
These pictures are so sad; especially the one with Rapunzel having chemotherapy. :[
To answer the question at the bottom...
Jasmine was always my favorite, only because she was the first Disney Princess I was exposed to. Growing up, though, I never thought of her as a weak little damsel in distress, as some people perceive Disney Princesses to be. No, I don't think Disney was meant to be misleading or deceitful. I mean, it's not as if we curled up into a ball and fell into depression the moment reality dawned on us. Quite frankly, I'm glad I grew up with sweet Disney fairy tales. Granted, they're not realistic, but I suppose that's why they are referred to as "fantasy."
Anyway, now that I'm grown up, I still find interest in things related to fairy tales. The original stories by the Grimm brothers are amazing (and gory)! I love them. I also love "Ever After" starring Drew Barrymore. It depicts the story of "Cinderella and her Prince" with more believable details than Disney could never display for their younger audiences.
Sleeping beauty. :(
Jasmine looks awesome and tough! Love the photo shoot. My favorite growing up was Mulan though.
I think the Rapunzel one makes me real sad :'|
OMG. My friend told me all about this, but I never saw it for myself. And here it is. Thanks for sharing. ^-^
I have to admit. Mulan was always my favorite. But these photos were hilarious. Sorta. The chemo one was sad.
I didn't have a fave Disney princess. I was into Marvel comics when I was a kid. Plus, I loved the original 'fairytales' by the Grimm brothers better.
my fave was always belle cuz i looked like her. when i was younger, my sister and i would assign princesses to each other: she was always snow white and jasmine cuz she had really dark hair, and i was always ariel and belle (my hair was red when i was really little, now it's brown).
Nala. :] I don't care if she's a lion, she's my favorite. Does that count? haha.
Those stories were more for adults than children. Hundreds of years ago, there would just be one storyteller, and he or she would tell just that one story for the night around the camp fire for a group of people of all ages. There would be hidden meanings for the adults in the group. Little Red Riding Hood was about something completely different.
hahahaha those pictures were so funny i don't know why.
Pocahontas was my girl! Maybe it was because she was the only tan one at the time. who knows.
