Oh Hawaii. The island of palm trees, beautiful weather all year round and tropical sunsets. I learned that Hawaii is a lot more than just that. It may not be known as one of the fashion cities of the world, but you should keep your eye on the popular trends here.
Its all about comfort and style. I could not help but fall in love with these simple but beautiful trends. And of course, I always had a flower in my hair.
Gorgeous long maxi dresses were huge here on the mainland, but its a staple in Hawaii. Bold and bright colorful dresses are sold everywhere on the island.
Bright lacey cami's. I picked up a bunch at the Pac Sun at one of the malls.
Everyone, especially the youth in Hawaii loves hoodies. I guess its good when you go into an establishment with a lot of air conditioning. I'd be sweating if I wore it outside!

Most guys were dressed with a shirt over a pair of board shorts. Its perfect when you just want to take it off and take a dive into the beach!

And for men and women, it is all about the slippers.
(Thank you to our TripCrazed fans that told me in Hawaii they call it slippers. I was not aware!) They are comfy, lightweight, perfect for a hot day and easy to kick off when you need to cool off in the water!
Do you enjoy the fashions of Hawaii? Do you follow any of these trends?

For some reason that flower in the hair style slays me. That, on top of the sundresses? I think I'll have a heart attack the minute I step in that state haha
One of the interesting things about clothing here in Hawai'i is that standard Business Wear is not the suit/ shirt/ tie but instead it's trousers and an "aloha shirt", which is what the rest of the world knows as the "hawaiian shirt" -- except the ones the locals wear are not bright, loud and gaudy. They tend to be more subdued, more subtle, with a more Tropical-Asian design. If you wear a suit here, you will look very odd. And you will be VERY hot.
Board Shorts + T-shirt + Slippers (flip flops to you -- if you say flip flops in Hawai'i people will look at you like you're from another planet) are pretty common casual wear here when you live here. It's a very relaxed lifestyle.
Eh wut you gon wear tonight?
Oh jus T-shot, shots, slippahs.
One of the things I like the most is being able to leave the office, drive (or even walk sometimes) a few minutes and be able to sit down at the beach in front of the ocean, and watch the sunset with my feet in the sand to unwind from a day.
Hawaii is a part of America, how is it "abroad"?
Aside from that, I love the flower in the hair look & the camis are pretty.
@chow@ireallylikefood - haha, I was going to say something about the "slippers" but I got beat to it :)
@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - Probably because it's so far off the coast. It can mean away from your own country, or simply far from your usual surroundings.
@ELIZerson@xanga - Hahaha, did you ever learn to speak Pidgin while you were here?
I personally love hoodies and outerwear, which is ironic since it's so hot here in Hawai`i. That's probably why I liked being in Oregon for college; I got to wear all the jackets I wanted. Brand names found at PacSun are super popular among teenagers and people in their early twenties. And I must say that people here were rockin the flannel wayyyy before it became a "major trend." I know I started wearing it from elementary school (because it was all hand-me-down stuff) but then while in high school kids would just wear it as an outer shirt. And now, the flannel trend has kinda exploded in an obnoxious way.
SLIPPERS. Not flip flops, thank you.
Women also don't usually wear flowers THAT HUGE in their hair. Smaller one's like plumeria's are much more common. Mostly people just wear tshirts and shorts/board shorts. And of course the local ones like "HiLife," "Maui Built," or "Bloodline" brands that are from Hawai`i.
i like ...well, except for the flower in the hair thing ;)
yeah i don't think so. living in hawaii, i know for a fact this isn't true. maybe the sweater thing, but that's about it.
@importantnonsense@xanga - I will change it to slippers =) Nobody in Hawaii told me that!
@chow@ireallylikefood - Well, I learned to understand a good deal of it! I was too shy to actually speak it ;)
my fiance actually lived in Oahu (sp?) for a while before moving back to the mainland. I love it when he tells me stories about when he lived there. I'm also really excited that he's taking me there for our honey moon to show me the real Hawaii under all the tourism crap. he's been teaching me pigin and a bunch of other stuff... I can't wait lol.
i love hoodies! its too bad its always warm in hawaii.
but slippers are an essential part of the wardrobe
haha, im in washington for school and two of my roomies are from hawaii and one is from washington. so we have to compromise with the whole slipper/flip-flop argument. we call them flippers XD
Hawai is pure joy to the eyes and senses. Thanks for making us dreaming!
