Shanghai vs. Hong Kong can probably be called the battle of the Modern Cities of the Far East. Both cities are known as a little piece of the West in China.
Many don't consider China a modern country with crazy city spotlights and interesting fashion districts. But because of these upcoming cities, China can keep up with modern cities such as New York, Milan and Los Angeles.
But it is the history and culture of China that makes these cities special. Shanghai, China
- A product of the late 70's great reform, Shanghai is a city rich in history, but new in life.
- Over 300 of the world's top 500 Enterprises call Shanghai home.
- Shanghai is finance city. It excels in economic achievements and holds many political conventions, cultural exhibits, film festivals and fashion shows.
- Besides, there are places well worth a visit in the suburbs such as Qibao Ancient Town, Zhujajiao Water Town and Chongming Island for in addition to its modern facets, the city has a wealth of more ancient Chinese traditions.
Hong Kong, China
- A cultural pot of different parts of Asia. It blends British culture with Chinese customs.
- Also known as a Global Metropolis and Financial City.
- A naturally beautiful sight with island views and beautiful natural surroundings
- A Travel Guide says: From Yum Cha (tea and dim sum) in the morning to a moon lit view from the top of Victoria Peak or stunning night time harbor cruise, mingling with shoppers in the numerous malls and markets around Tsim Sha Tsui , tasting delicacies at dai pai dong, taking a trip in a sampan or high speed ferry, Hong Kong will guarantee its visitors an unforgettable experience.
- There will always be something to enchant you and quite probably make you fall in love with this unique place, be it sightseeing, shopping, dining or simply exploring its many delights by day and night.
So far, this Match Up Monday is a tough one! We have one opinion from our Hardest Level Editor. He picks Shanghai because it sounds cooler. As for me, I'm sold on both!Which would you rather visit and Why?

I've been to both and I have to say Hong Kong was brighter, and sunnier, and filled with more diverse people... From what I saw anyway. But I'd be SO glad to go back to either!!! <3 Chinaaaa!

i haven't been to Shanghai, but i have visited Hong Kong and i must say, Hong Kong is simply amazing!!! a great blend of modern and tradition.
I have lived in Hong Kong all my life to date (for more than 50 years). So, you know my answer.
HK only
hong kong :)
Hong Kong for sure =]
im from HK and i pick....shanghai. no, really, shanghai is catching up so fast that it may replace HK one day.
I have ties to both - I grew up in HK but my family is from Shanghai. I love both cities, but I gotta choose HK. I think it's much more livable.
HK.
I have never been to these places before.
beein in both cities. Loved Shanghai very much. But my heart is in HK.
Hong Kong then!
HK!! <3 'cause it's amazin (and where my family originated from) ~ it's food is to die for!
I loved Hong Kong - more than Shanghai when I went there. I liked the atmosphere better, it didn't seem as bustling and busy, it was more relaxed and fun but all in natural beauty with all that water so close by. My family has friends (and some family) in both places, and my dad lived in Hong Kong for a short while in his childhood before coming to Canada. Hong Kong stole my heart when I went back in 2005.
I also like that people are more likely to speak either, or both, English and Cantonese there. Since I don't do the whole Mandarin thing. D;
Hong Kong would probably remind me of the Philippines, which I love.
Shanghai would probably remind me of SF, which I also love.
I'm torn, but probably Hong Kong, just because I know more Cantonese than Mandarin. I don't know enough to SPEAK fluently, but I know enough to understand basic things...
Hong Kong for sureee!!!
it's way cleaner hahaI love Hong Kong. My third home.
i'm a lil bias in my decision, but i say SH, that's cuz i spent 5months studying abroad there, and it was hella fun! the night clubs and bar!! But then again, i'm canto, so i also want to say HK, cuz i've heard that it's ever better shopping. haha
HONG KONG! :D
