  • Things You Must Do Before You Die: Japanese Tea Ceremony

Aloha TripCrazers! This is a new idea I came up with! We'll take a look at interesting things you can do overseas or even in your hometown that are worthy of your time!

We'd love some recommendations, whether its something as simple as feeding the ducks in Central Park on a sunny day or scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

Lets start off with something I've always wanted to do: Attend a Japanese Tea Ceremony.

"The Japanese tea ceremony (cha-no-yu, chado, or sado) is a traditional ritual influenced by Zen Buddhism in which powdered green tea, or matcha (抹茶), is ceremonially prepared by a skilled practitioner and served to a small group of guests in a tranquil setting."

You are served traditional Japanese tea by a tea connoisseur. They are dressed in a kimono and must be knowledgeable in the types of tea, production of tea, calligraphy, flower arrangements, ceramics and other arts.

This art takes many years of practice. If you are lucky enough to be a guest, make sure you know the proper gestures and phrases and how to drink your tea, so you're not being rude. I think this is a great privilege, and I love tea!
