  • Your Opinion: A Trip To Europe?

    Dear friends,
Lend me your opinions please! My original plan for the Fall was to move back into Philadelphia so I could be closer to my new job. I wouldn't have to pay for the commute and parking fees. New Jersey is presently driving me crazy. I cannot stress how bad I want out, which is why this is such a problem. I currently live in a nice location, but it may as well be in the middle of nowhere for someone in their 20s. I would be renting a house, with 4 others. Rent would be 500 a month.

However; A friend called me the other day and asked me if I wanted to join him on a trip to Europe. He has been mentally planning this trip for a while and now wants to turn it into a reality. The trip would consist of him, myself, and a somewhat mutual friend (Only met her a few times, but she's Russian and I love her already). We'd leave in the summer, destinations aren't final, but talks of Spain, Germany and France for sure; everything else still open for discussion.

The Problem? Money. Is it still worth it to move into the city and acquire a way more expensive monthly rent?

Should I somehow convince my "Overwhelming urge to flee New Jersey" to stick it out another few months?

    What would YOU do....

The trip sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.  I'd backpack through Europe and stay at hostels to save money.  That way when you return, you'll have more money to use on rent.

I wouldn't spend $500/mo. on a place with 4 other people unless it was a really nice apartment/house where I could still get some guaranteed privacy.  That just doesn't sound worth it to me.

What's a few more months in Jersey when you can go have a blast in Europe? Easy solution. Trip is a go.

You may not enjoy Jersey, but in ten years are you going to look back and regret sticking it out for a few months or not checking out Europe. I don't think this is a question. Go to Europe.

Check out Christine's site at www.almostfearless.com on changing your outlook so that you can live the life you want. She's running a new post every day in the month of September regarding all the "obstacles" we think we have about travel.

After reading what she has to say, something tells me you'll have your bags packed for Europe.

This is a no brainer.  Go to Europe.  Backpacks and hostels sound like a great option for someone your age!  I'm already looking forward to your posts from across the pond.  Peace

I think you should go 4 it- without a 2nd thought. If you have a chance to travel Europe,go for it :)  I too look forward to your posts from there. Enjoy....

Have you ever been to Europe?

Because, if you haven't, I would recommend doing everything in your power to take that opportunity. You'll be making decisions based on your job and your livelihood for the rest of your life - so why not make a decision to do something different while you're young?

Do what you can to save up, and go.It will change you for the better, and you will not regret it.
