Fashion Abroad: Tokyo, Japan
Although I live in one of the greatest fashion capitals of the world (New York City) I've got to give it to Tokyo, Japan for opening the doors to creativity. Japanese youth fashion may be one of the strangest, but most recognized trends in the fashion world.
It inspired Gwen Stefani in her songs and perfume choices and the style was even featured on America's Next Top Model.
But the Mecca of this trend is of course in Tokyo, Japan. This style is kind of a big deal. Many people travel to Japan to get a taste of this crazy style.
I would love to visit and shop with these girls and get a taste of the Harajuku Style. This is the classic Lolita style. This adorable girl can certainly pull it off. As an outfit for myself, perhaps not so much. I've seen extreme versions of this look and her version is simply sweet.
This didn't come across to me as the typical Harajuku style, but I love it! Everyone here in the US imagines crazy wild and bold outfits. Her ensemble is classy and cute. It fits her body type just right and matches very well.
Now we're getting a little crazier here! But I think it still works in its own way. I love her messy red pigtails. She has polka dots mixed with stripes and bright sneakers. In its own little way, although it clashes, it looks well put. Not only that, but it looks very comfy! And her best accessory, her boyfriend of course!Have you ever fell in love with fashion abroad?

I don't think I would ever wear these.
i like what the girl in third pic is wearing
Dude I love Japan fashion cause it is so crazy and out there. But I tried to shop while I was in Harajuku and it was difficult because I couldn't exactly find things my size (as I'm am taller and a little bigger than the average Japanese girl).
I loved Japan more because no one seemed to judge you on what you're wearing rather than for their crazy sense of creativity. I think that allows you more creativity in choosing what to wear. I don't know about other places, but sometimes it feels really stifling in LA because there is always someone who would judge what you're wearing.
The outfit in the last picture looks like stuff I'd throw together when I was little. Mom would throw a fit because it didn't match, but it just goes to show I was just ahead of my time, haha.
Some of the Japanese fashion you see (like in Harujuku) is amazing (am a huge fan of EGL myself). I like how it doesn't matter what someone's parents or sibling or classmate said. It's all about having fun, personal expression, and pushing boundaries.
Im actually in the process of creating a second lolita outfit much like the second pic only with a victorian flare! I love Japanese fashion... so much I wrote a 3,000 word paper on it.
The white dress is TOO CUTE to wear! I'm afraid I might get it dirty! Unfortunately, I am unable to wear the typical Asian girl size. I'm still going to visit Japan. Maybe be lucky to find a bigger size? :]
I went to Japan in an exchange program, and trust me, the majority of the population does NOT dress like that. Of course, I only traveled though Nagoya, Kyoto, Tokyo, and Kagoshima so maybe this is just somewhere else.
The people who dress crazy really only do so one weekends and even then, it's only as a special thing. That isn't their normal wear, it's just something cute to do in their free time.
I wish people would get over it.
@MangoWOW@xanga - you're so right. everybody seems to think the Lolita and crazy neon stuff is what the average Japanese citizen wears..I have lived in Japan 2 years and I know this is soo not true~~~where I lived in Chiba people were more interested in Volcom and Roxy..
men wear a lot of pink and carry purses (handbags) and tight fitting clothes. I don't think that fits my style for fashion
I enjoy Japanese women's fashion. I don't know much about how men dress there these days.
That is disgusting !
Oh come on ! how long can u stay cute !?
living in ur story ur own imagination !? Till 30 !? Be mature !!!
And dresses like this was actually from europe,
I hate the way they dress it like their own culture,
this is not even a japanese culture, their only changed a bit cutting of the dress !
I'll be old by the time I get to Japan.. if I ever do.
I was lucky enough to stop by Taipei for four days straight. It's like a small version of Japan, because the youngin's there are sooo cute. They dress so pretty. And their hair! Both the boys and girls are breath taking. So many pretty people. OMG.
Anyway, I can't pull off these clothes. I've tried. I looked like an otaku. GROSS.
@ChOcOChObO@xanga - True haha. Asian guys carry handbags like girls do in America. It's strange. ^^
I love Japanese fashion, but I know I could never pull it off.
@happieclouds@xanga - True. But still! Go down to Shibuya or something. I heard it's awesome down there.
I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooove Lolita stuff. <3 I even have a website that showcases cute lolita inspired goodies! http://www.cutesycharm.com
i just barfed all over my keyboard.
They key to Japanese style is that there's equal effort put into everything. Hair, makeup, clothes, shoes... Americans try to copy this half-assedly and it looks stupid. and it pisses me off.
i like the last picture. (: i want the polka dot shirt.
What is up with grown women trying to dress like little girls? Do the men there have some sort of pedophilia fetish? Sheesh...
I love Japanese fashions. Ohmygosh.
I like some of their fashion, but I don't think I would ever be bold enough to attempt actually wearing it.
You forgot so many styles but I do agree their style is unique.
