Vacation for me starts the moment I'm strapped into my seat belt and 32,000 feet in the air. For some reason, I look forward to the in flight meals as part of my vacation. And even when I'm not on a plane, the foodie in me tends to take pictures of everything I eat. With airlines cutting back on costs, one of the hardest hit parts of the airline industry are the meals. On a recent flight to Los Angeles from New York, it was announced that the 5 hour flight would be food-less, with only food for purchase! Come on now! That's a long flight to go without food. After researching what airlines cut back I found a great website:
AirlineMeals.net dedicated to the art of Airline food.
The webmaster clearly has a passion for airline food. There are hundreds of photographs of food from different flights. I'm sure every meal has a story behind it and it inspires me to always include food pictures as part of my travel.
You can imagine the variety of food based on what airline or country you're going to.

We always have something at the airport to eat before we fly, we have always had a meal on the plane apart from short haul for a few flights, because it has not been included in the price.
Generally I should be please that I am getting a meal, we been having the vegetarian meal the last few flights for some reason we pre-ordered by accident but it tasted nice.
Some I have liked, the rest we have been disappointed with but hey it is food.
My meals weren't that much & they were actually pretty good :) I had pasta & pizza. For breakfast I had a bagel, orange juice and some other things on the side.
People look at me funny when I say I love airplane food hahaha
On my way to Turks and Caicos once, I had this awesome Spanish rice and beans meal. It was delicious. And then on my way to Switzerland, I had Lasagna and on the way home, I had some kind of steak and rice meal. Mmmm.
(P.S. this was flying coach)
korean airlines have bi bim bap and china airlines/eva air has chinese food!
The only time I had a bad experience with airplane food was when I woke up too late for the regular meal and they gave me ramen instead. I threw up - the only time I threw up on a plane, ever. And it was the result of the same kind of ramen you get in supermarkets for a dollar a cup.
So, I like airplane food. And since we usually fly business class nowadays (we've racked up that many Frequent Flyer miles), the food is even better!
Wow, this one time I asked for the vegetarian meal and the lady gave me an attitude for being "picky". ugh, needless to say, I never travel through that airline anymore. I like getting the things I prefer if I paid for it. I do not like bitchy old ladies giving me an attitude >.>
when i flew continental recently, i had a bbq rib sandwich with apple sauce and a beverage. other than that, most of the flights i've been on lately don't give out meals but only beverages. i try not to eat or drink anything because i hate using the plane restrooms or public restrooms period.
5 hours is not a long time to go without food. I avoid airplane food and only eat it if I have to eat it, but I can be picky. I like the idea of paying for food, it will hopefully mean better choices on long flights. I can only imagine wanting a meal on a flight that crosses an ocean. I've never been anywhere cool so I've only had boring things.
i just read Avenue to the Real and i got a real prloblem with this post... who the FUCK said you can FUCKIN' take photos of airlines foodz alls overz the place. HUH? FUuUuuUUuUCK Me!
I have actually never had airline food, I'm too cheap, plus, the longest flight I've been on was 3 1/2 hours. Some of the snacks though are really good.
During my flight back from Japan our Coach tickets got bumped up to Business due to them overbooking coach and how early we bought out tickets... and I was amazed by how awesome that food was. It was so good that I took some really nice photos of it and sold the images to a stock photography website as soon as I got back. The girl sitting next to me(Japanese) was giggling at me taking the photos ontop of not really knowing how to eat some of the food items. There was ginger soup, different types of sushi/sashimi, rice pudding.. stuff... and then for desert they brought us green tea ice cream with this weird waffle-like edible garnish around it(here's a photo that i didn't sell)... really went all out.
And I thought to myself; all these years ive been back in coach, stomach doing backflips due to me not eating the horrible food back there and just sucking on cranberry juice while people up front were pigging out on this amazing grub ahaha.
The only food I have really disliked are the 'breakfast boxes' and 'lunch boxes' served on long overseas flights. Those are always quite cold and very tasteless.
Yeah, I usually sit in the Business Class if I'm travelling with my parents. The food is always pretty good. :)
i actually love airline foods! i just dont have the appitite for them... air sickness. =(
I've had the first one, the salmon is GROSS! :)
Best food - Air France; worst food - KLM (outbound from MN only, interestingly, the food was better coming home from Amsterdam) I'm curious how the food is now that they've merged. I'm with you: vacation starts with the food on the plane.
@erahslover@xanga - i hope i get upgraded to business class on my flight to/from japan next month. that would be awesome!
My favorite is when flying AA international to or from Chicago O'Hare. They always have these mini pizzas that are delicious! And they tend to serve them with a small container of grapes and a package of biscuits (which would be British style cookies). Mmmmm.
I dunno if i trust airline food...heheh > >
Also, i can barely remember a time when a sufficient amount of food was provided for free on an airplane trip... i only remember complimentary baggies of peanuts and pretzels...
The worst food on my flight is to HongKong and back to uK on VirginAirlines... was crap!!Â
it literally tasted like plastic!!! i only survived the 13 hour flight with bread and butter =[ and cup noodles in the middle of the night ;PÂBest flight food- KOREANAIR! omgosh the Bibimbop tasted so nice! and the souppp
england flights need to up their game!!!!! fish that tasted like chicken is a BIG NO NO XDÂ
Korean Airline, in my opinion, had the best food out of the airlines I've traveled with.
I had some good Chinese food to/from Chicago O'Hare and Beijing Airport. Simple rice with stir-fried beef/chicken and veggies. Mmmm.
Problem: It was a 13 hour flight. So they served that meal, and then a few hours later, we got nasty FISH FLAVORED RAMEN cups. It made me feel like puking. I like ramen, but this fish ramen was HORRIBLE
on Cathay, they offer cup noodles.
Well luckily for me since I work for LSG flight lines, I work with various of airlines. By far I believe Continental Airlines has the best dessert plate. But by far Lufthansa Airlines has quite the food, gotta love it <33
