  • Dear Pen Pal...

In our modern world, its hard to remember the good old days of regular mail. The only thing I get really excited for is my regular magazine subscriptions. When I was in elementary school, our class had a pen pal program with a school in Naples, Florida. I remember sending my penpal Kasey cool things from New York, like a mini Empire State Building figurine. I'd look forward to her letters and pictures of the beautiful Florida beaches.

I wish I still had her contact information so I could find her on Facebook!

There is something I love about getting a postcard or a care package, so I wouldn't mind having a real pen pal from across the globe!

Did you or do you currently have a pen pal? Would you consider having one?

I am pen palling right now. It is so much more personal and makes it more special than the internet can ever do.

I had a pen pal back in the first grade. It was a boy named Alex who lived in California. We exchanged emails at the end of the year and communicated through it until the end of 3rd grade. I tried getting in touch with him, but that didn't turn out so well. Hahaha, it was a good experience though.

I've had a few pen pals.. I love getting mail and presents. it would be fun to do it again.. if anyone wants to be my pen pal... message me. :)

  • xa06@xanga

Yeah, way back in second grade. Unfortunately, my pen pal was a boy, and he ended up telling me that he didn't want to write to me anymore because I might send him cooties :(

  • ANTN@xanga

dang.. my school had a program but we ended up only writing ONCE! lollll my childhood best friends would move away and we would write to each other... would that consider a penpal? lol

if it does, then the first one was Bethany M in the 7th grade, moved to Ft Meyers, FL and 9th grade was Piyatida K. aka "Noon" unfortunately for them I suck at responding :( it's always been my downfall... I guess thats why i choose not to ever have one... I think it's for society's own good that I stay that way! LOL

AWWW, yes, i remember, but very veryyy vague memories.

i'd like a pen pal though. anyone interested?
i'm in australia, if that helps any. <3

  • Vacantwhispers@xanga

I do. But it's hard because I'm not good at remembering to write. I get there though.

  • jazziegal97@xanga

I did have pe npals in elementry school. I think we just wrote each other for the school year and then eventually we both stopped. I'm not sure if it was money (buying stamps, paper, envelops) or just that I got into other things.

I do miss it though...I don't even remember my pen pal's name :(

I write to my friends that I met in college. They're spread out across the U.S. and I'm in Hawai`i, so it's nice to get letters and postcards from different places.

I also have an email pen pal I've been writing to for eight years!

  • gracefulmelody@xanga

I have email pen pals......if that counts.

  • xchinkylaydee@xanga

i had a pen pal in elementary school before. it was awesome waiting for her reply. :)

  • princess_riceball@xanga

I had a few pen pals before in elementary school. I'd really like to have one now again though.

  • squiggs_02@xanga

Heck yes I would have a pen pal even now! I mean I'm 25 but I think it would be awesome just to have someone to write back and forth too. And like you said it's way more personal than the internet and e-mail!

  • EpikZwei@xanga

I've never had a pen pal. In elementary school, I read books about kids with pen pals and I was so jealous that my school didn't have a program like that. However, I've never really snail-mailed anyone. I've just written letters to my cousins for fun, put them in an envelope and put stamp-like stickers on them.

  • cchang604@xanga

I used to have one; it was fun. :) I sure do miss it!

  • lovesJoy@xanga

I never had a pen pal. I wished I did. But here's a thing, most of my friends left my town already for college. So, just to make it a little more personal (because we all have facebook, twitter, etc), I've asked for addresses so I can write them letters once in a while during the semester.

So, I'll always have something to look forward to when I come home from classes :]

In 6th Grade, we had pen pals from Omaha, Nebraska I've saved the letters from my pen pal, even if they were from 6 years ago.

My best friends class had pen pals in Belize, which was really neat.

  • xueyo@xanga

i've got no penpal. i wish i had one. :(

I love, absolutely adore writing letters the old fashioned way. my best friend who lives like 3 provinces apart from me, i decided to write him letter because i missed him too much. it was so much fun, he'd love getting letters from me and i would too. it means ALOT more when writing letters than over the internet,
i would write letters any given day.

  • omfg_its_____LIZx3@xanga

awh, i used to have a pen pal. i dont have her address though :( boo.

  • Baseballchik138@xanga

I still write to my pen pal :) I love it! We started writing about in 2002, when I was in middle school, were now in College, and it never gets old!

  • maris12002@xanga

Heheh, well, at my peak I had about 80 penpals. That was in the junior high school. Now just a handful of the best pals have remained. The others somehow disappeared - some got married, some moved, some had too different interests and thanks to my own job I was travelling 10 months a year... But it was a lot of fun. I used to run back home & to the mailbox to see if there was something for me. I used to collect these stamps and during the Christmas period my desk was full of all sorts of nice small presents from them. Naturally that meant sending them stuff, too. And it's really amazing, especially when you find someone who does spend a few hours on your letter, writes long and fascinating letters more or less regularly and is intelligent enough to have an enjoyable writing style and wide vocabulary (almost all my penpals were from different countries and English is not my mother tongue either, so sometimes it was difficult... when you got a letter that basically consisted of 12 words ). Hehe, it was so nice that I think I'm going to go and write a letter to one of the best pals I still keep in touch with...

I also had a penpal in elementary school.  We got to write once a week or something like that.  It was awesome.  It'd be nice to start something like that again :)

  • Elektrik_Red@xanga

I've got one!  It's fun, and interesting.  I've always been fascinated by writing and receiving letters.  I'm always up for another one if anyone's interested :P
