Hidden in Bangkok's Nai Lert Park next to the hotel of the same name is this unusual shrine. The Penis Shrine, or also known by it's real name Chao Mae Tuptim Shrine, is dedicated to Chao Tuptim, a female spirit and is believed to help with fertility.
A woman once prayed at this shrine asking Chao Tuptim to help her conceive because she was unable to have a baby. Lo and behold,
she later became pregnant. She was so happy that she came back to the shrine with a carving of a giant penis. Others soon did the same and now if you were to visit the park you would see hundreds of wooden penis statues. They come in varying sizes and color.
I've been to Bangkok, Thailand a few times and I had never heard of this Penis Shrine. I was reading a story in the most recent issue of Maxim about David Carradine, the actor, who was found dead in the hotel there and it mentioned this shrine. I'm curious and I plan on visiting next time I'm in Bangkok.
Would you visit the Penis Shrine?

That's amazing. I definitely would visit it!
Disturbing .....
If I'm nearby, sure. I'm not planning an entire trip over there for that, though.
@joyouswind@xanga - Exactly.
It would be amusing if I was there for another reason. But I'm not going to travel there just to see THAT.
hehe sure!
HAHAHAHAHAHAH LMFAO.
WOW LOL And I thought there was only the Japanese Fertility Festival.
I'm Thai and I've never heard of such a shrine like this.
I would visit it, and leave giant penis there as well. Penises rock.
@joyouswind@xanga - I agree

I bet some of those mysteriously went 'missing'.
@joyouswind@xanga - same here.
Although if I wanted to conceive, I might consider going there :p
What's a p3nis? Is it a way of spelling penis so that ridiculously sensitive people don't know what you're writing about?
