16 Year Old Traveling Abroad
I am 16 years old and about to go into my Junior year of High School. Ever since I was little, I always wanted to go traveling abroad. I've decided on going to Australia for a summer program.
I was wondering if any of you Xangans know of any good Abroad Programs that aren't scams and will really help with financial aid (seeing as I'm not a millionaire).
Also, have any of you ever traveled abroad whether or not on student exchange? How was the experience? Do you have any tips or guidelines for me?

I was an exchange student in Japan in 10th/11th grade but I think the program I used only works in Miami.
Try looking up AIFs. When I was planning on doing another study abroad in high school I was using them but it ended up being too expensive for me and they work for a LOT of different countries.
Besides that I'm doing Jet when I get my bachelors. B)
I'll be spending at least a year in Japan teaching english :P
If anything, ask your school counselor what programs they can provide or help you with. They'll help you out a ton!
it wasn't exactly an exchange. my school has this experience week program where we go to different places in the world each november to experience other countries (it varies from the modern to the third world) and last year i got to go to japan. it was pretty awesome.
just be courteous and polite and keep your calm in frightening situations (i was seperated from the rest of the group after dark in a rural town, just myself alone and with the teachers telling us we had another 2 hour hike to go. it turned out to be a joke but i was scared to death because my broken japanese wasn't sufficient enough and i managed to find a police station on my own).
you're going to aussie though, so it should be okay since they speak english. :P beware of dropbears!
You should try for People to People Ambassador programs. During the summer its like, $5,000 or less for 21 days in a set destination. You have to go through an application process though, but you can get help with financial aid.
@cutesycharm@xanga - I agree :) but they're a bit pricy.
@MangoWOW@xanga - I'm looking into JET right now! I'm hoping to go once I finish up this Masters.
@joyouswind@xanga - High five! :D
I used People to People. You get a lot of mixed messages about them, but I went all the way to China and it's not a scam. The adults in my group didn't do a very good job of keeping us where we should have been but that's not their fault lol. You can look up their website.
I went to Greece and Turkey my Junior year of high school with other students. Some teachers put together spring break trips with EF. Maybe you could check them out.
@Kaichiturtle@xanga - What's EF?
I did people to people washington DC and I think they were waay overpriced. But it was a really fun experience
@unfrostedcereal@xanga - EF stands for Educational Tours. http://www.eftours.com/aboutus/
The only thing is that you need a teacher to plan the trip.
@MangoWOW@xanga - @cutesycharm@xanga - @Je_Suis_Vrai@xanga - The place I've found is called TWU International Student Programs (Two Worlds United). The only thing is, I don't know if they're legit. I'll definitely check out the places you've all suggested. Thank you so much for all of the info :)
