  • Bringing People In Afghanistan Together Through Skateboarding

A non-profit skateboarding school in Kabul, Afghanistan called Skateistan aims to bring people together through skateboarding. Their program offers free skateboarding classes to both boys and girls. Their mission is to increase communication and understanding among different Afghan ethnicities and socio-economic groups in a fun, educational and positive environment.

I think it's great what this group is doing for the community in Afghanistan. I think any tool that can benefit a community in a positive manner should be explored.

Check out this video from cnn.com.

Do you think teaching skateboarding would benefit other parts of the world?

That's a cool idea, but you probably could replace the "skate" in "Skateism" with pretty much any other activity, and it would still have the potential to bring people together.  How about Hopscotchism, Basketballism, or BlindfoldedJavelinCatchingism?    :P  I wonder why they chose skateboards.
