  • Gives me the Heebie Jeebies: Great White Cage Diving In South Africa

I found this article on Jaunted about great white shark cage diving in South Africa. It sounds so fascinating yet I don't think I'd ever have the nerve to do it. Sometimes I have dreams where I'm stuck in the deep ocean with no where to go (somehow I can always breathe), but when big sharks swim by me I swear I'd wet my pants if they weren't already wet.

Here's a little more information from the article.

"... UnrealDive has an extreme summer vacation for you. The South African expeditions company offers a series of one day outings and extended shark diving expeditions for adrenaline junkies and ecotourists alike. Great Whites are surface feeders so simple boat watching is always an option, but UnrealDive puts customers inside cages for eye-to-eye viewing.

The company boasts a 12 year track record without a single incident; no small achievement given that South Africa has some of the densest shark waters on the planet."

My husband's co worker went cage diving when he was in Africa and he said there was a moment where his heart jumped out of his chest because he'd slipped and his foot went through one of the holes in the cage. Eep!!! I'm sure these professionals know what they're doing though.

Do you think you could do it?

I've been to so many amazing places, but if I absolutely had to pick, I'd settle on a couple places to shorten the list. Madrid, Spain because that's where I did my study abroad program when I was 18 and it was there that the travel bug bit me so hard it left a scar. I haven't been the same since. And Vietnam. That's where my family is from. Although, I'm Vietnamese American, I never actually visited Vietnam until I was 26. It was an awesome experience to learn about my family's history and I was quite pleased to show off my vietnamese language skills to the locals. It's quite a big deal for an american-born.
