Some people like to join package tours while others prefer to travel on their own. If you had a chance to go on a trip to a foreign country, which would you choose?
Package tours are really convenient, you don’t have many choices to make. Tourist spots, hotels, along with meals are all planned. All you have to do is to give the money, and follow the timetable planned. But not everyone prefers this kind of traveling.
Have you ever complained about your travel agency because you thought the trip was awfully planned? Or somebody else complained while you were having the time of your life? A package tour is like going somewhere by bus. The routine is fixed and nothing can be changed whether you like it or not.
On the other hand, Self-Guided tour, would probably work out great for everyone, because you don’t have to worry about having food you don’t like or staying in a hotel you feel uncomfortable with. You can see famous artworks at the museum, have fun rides at the amusement park, or just simply spend time in a local park and read the book you always want to finish. In other words, travelling alone is like having a private car, you go or stop anywhere you like.
With the above reasons, I would choose to go on a tour alone rather than a package tour. Who wants to go by bus, when you’ve got a car?
But which do you prefer?

Tour alone, most definitely. I think that would be the most fun!
self-guided :) sort of like when my bestfriend and i spontaneously booked two round trip tickets to London, England!
Defnitely self-guided. I've done the whole package tour w/ family, and when we did this I was about 9. My sister and I were kicking and screaming (not literally, thank goodness for my parents) because we were bored w/ the fixed list of activites. *shrugs*
I'd like to do my own exploring!
I think I would like both... For my first tour if I am alone I'd take a package... then I'd take notes and do it again alone... Idealy I'd like to go with a private guide! Hey I'm dreaming here.
Of course self guided unless the package tour has really really uneatable deal! I don't like the tour guides haggle with customer about the hidden fees and them force to buy something at local shops.
I'd go in a car =D
Would depend actually on where. London - self guided. Kenya - a group safari.
Self-guided, most of the time!
Almost always self-guided for me. The only tour I enjoyed was a 20-day safari in Africa across countries. Otherwise I like to create my own itinerary, tour on my own timeline and do the off-the-beaten-track things!
For all your self-travelers who get lonely, check out a service we just launched this week called "Travel Companion" on Tours4Fun.com which allows travelers to post Craigslist-type ads to try to find people who want to travel around the same dates to the same locations in order to save on accommodation and other expenses. Just go to any category page or tour and you'll see it in the left-hand navigation.
Self-guided is always an adventure, but it's nice to have company sometimes :)
