  • What's Your Home Town Unique For?

I live in a tourist town. In fact, there would be little reason for this place to exist if we lost both the military and tourism. We don't get just our own countrymen. The most common out of state license plates I see here are from Coahuila and Nuevo Leon. Where do I live?  San Antonio, Texas.

We have the River Walk, The Alamo, (and four other historic missions), scores of museums, and friendly people. Sports, Festivals, History, Sea World... It's all here. If you like ethnic food, we have that too. There is even more here than I can list. I like my town. ("Town"? It's the 7th largest city in the US!)

What about other places? Where do you live? Is it unique for something?

    quietness after 8pm...all day everyday.

    I live in JC, NJ.
I guess it's known for it's drug dealings, gangsters, illegal street racing, shootings, murders, and abandoned buildings. The good things? Well, you can see some NYC life in the downtown area, the best high school in the state, riverfront, boardwalk, diversity of culture and people, amazing food, just the plain old city life. I guess for me, I just love living in the city instead of the suburbs... I don't know why but I can't stand those places .

Waterloo, Iowa. One of John Dillinger's thugs (Tommy Carroll) was gunned down in an alley downtown, but uh, other than that, nothing?

I live in Morton, IL, the self-proclaimed Pumpkin Capital of the World.  We have a good deal of tourism, mostly in the fall for our annual Pumpkin Festival.

DC - Political chaos, scandal, and conspiracies ... most days, anyway. Oh yeah, and the whole being the nation's capital thing.

My city is unique for a number of reasons. The fair, the square, an AMAZING southern restaurant that is known throughout the entire state (Cracker Barrel has got NOTHIN' of it, believe me, it's just THAT good.), among other things.

3rd in the nation for car theft.  9th depending on who you talk to, and when you talk to them.  Highest in the state for teen pregnancy (2007)... A girl from the high school I went to was on ABC Nightline about it... We have some MAJOR gang problems, and crime rate is really high.  Illegal immigrants from Mexico (even though we're nowhere NEAR Mexico...).  Marijuana being grown in vinyards like it was nothing.  ...The typical woes of a gang-plagued, poverty-stricken town.

Oh, there's the "Welcome to Yakima: The Palm Springs of Washington" sign that somehow everyone knows about, even people from as far away as California.  For the record, that sign couldn't be farther from the truth.  Someone had a very twisted sense of humor.

Also one of the world's largest apple producers, and 75% of the nations hops.

I clicked on this because of the picture, haha. I went to San Antonio (and that spot on the Riverwalk) a couple of weeks ago, but I'm a native Texan. I was born and raised in Houston, which has it's fair share of "tourist attractions" as well (Nasa, Various Museums, Houston Zoo, Reliant Stadium, Astrodome).

I live in College Station now, though, for school. It's definitely not a tourist town, other than maybe the Bush Library and I guess Texas A&M University might be a stop on some people's lists. Though, we're fairly close to the Blue Bell Factory in Brenham? haha

Having all it's residents banned for staying in a motel up the line somewhere. Seriously.

Minneapolis. None for...F. Scott Fitzgerald. Prince. Josh Hartnet. My personal favorite, where Sarah Palin got ragged on for a shopping spree during the RNC.

The Broader state connections Prarie Home Companion. The Mall of America. 10,000 lakes. The stupidity of Norm Coleman vs. Al Franken senate election that was not decided finally until less than a month ago.

The city I live in is San Francisco!! Another touristy city. I like where I live, because you can go anywhere in the city through public transportation. Some things unique about my city is .. the cable cars, Alcatraz and Golden Gate Bridge? I've walked on only the GGBridge once though.

Oh! And the city has interesting neighborhoods! Like the "gay" neighborhood Castro or the "hippie/beatnik era" neighborhood Haight Ashbury!
