  • Atlantic City: Hot Spot or Las Vegas Wannabe?

My friend and I have been thinking about taking a day trip to Atlantic City.  We would leave in the morning and probably get back late at night.  Atlanticcitynj.com makes the city look all glitzy and fun, but everyone has been telling me that the place is really just a run-down Las Vegas wannabe with a boardwalk and that there isn't much to do if you aren't 21, which I am not.  New Jersey gets a pretty bad rap on its own, so I am a little wary about making this trip.  Of course I'll do some more research before we actually decide whether or not to go, but I wanted to get the opinions of my fellow Tripcrazed fans here first.

Have you been to Atlantic City in New Jersey? What was your experience? Do you think there's anything fun to do there for a couple of 20 year-olds?

I live in NJ, I visit AC every once in a while, mainly for business (boxing).

Would I recommend it? ....I'm not.....sure. Especially because you are under 21. I am 21+ and I still run out of things to do there. Outside of the casinos/clubs there isn't much to do.

    BUT

I also haven't ever actually LOOKED for things to do. I usually go down and wander. Wandering will get you no where fast, so I would highly researching shows/sights. Who knows, maybe you will find something

    AC itself...

The boardwalk is ok. Imagine a boardwalk and there ya go.

The beach, isn't the nicest/cleanest of beaches and the water is usually very cold.

If you want to go because you've never been, don't let this take away from your desire. My first time in AC I was 18ish. I can't remember what I did but I had a good time just being there.

I've been to AC, but it was awhile ago...it could have changed (for the worse?) since then...

but I agree with Lordv16...the boardwalk was ok...

I live in NJ, how can I not?! :)
I love AC... and the beaches. Can't go to the casinos or anything, but it's fun to go there anyway.

I was in AC Friday night and I'm going again next weekend for a friend's bday. I only really go there for concerts at the Borgata or birthdays b/c I don't gamble. Everything is way overpriced. The Borgata is probably the nicest casino down there. I was only on the boardwalk once for dinner so I can't really tell you what that is like.
Over by the Trump casinos there's a shopping outlet which looks pretty cool. The surrounding neighborhood is a little sketchy though.
I've been to Vegas and it's waaaaaaay cooler there.
My brother described AC as a "d*cktease" compared to Vegas.

did somebody say Las Vegas?! *swoooon*

  • StylishMudd@xanga

Well...I prefer to call Atlantic City the Las Vegas of the east coast...rather than "wannabe LV."

But if you want to go to gamble and have fun with a few friends, then sure why not? the boardwalk is very long and the beach is very nice. Water is a bit cold but its nice to wander and look around...
I always enjoy myself when I'm in AC even though I'm only 18. It's a nice getaway from the typical day routine :P

Have you heard Atlantic City in Dubai its beautiful largest aquarium ever seen.  A good place to have adventure holidays

I live in South Jersey, maybe 30 minutes from AC, and I never go there...I've gone twice, for concerts, but there's not really anything to do that doesn't involve spending a LOT of money...even the concerts were way too expensive.

Since you can't gamble or drink anyway, I would reccomend Ocean City or Wildwood instead, if you're looking for the Jersey Shore experience. Both have great boardwalks and while OC's beaches are nicer, Wildwood's are free. But then, OCs are free too if you're sneaky.
On the boardwalk make sure you DO play skeeball, DON'T rent one of those bike-kart things, (they automatically make you a douche), and DON'T ride the tramcar.  Also, Mac&Manco's pizza is way overrated.

  • DarcKleer@xanga

@C0ll33Ncorps@xanga - WATCH the tramcar please...wa wa wa WATCH the tramcar please...

  • C0ll33Ncorps@xanga

@DarcKleer@xanga - Tramcar operator is either the best or the worst job in the world, I can't decide.

My friends theory is that Atlantic City, NJ is great in the summer for gambling and nightlife. Def NOT the beach. Its the hot spot for the summer, since Vegas is VERY HOT. Off season when we're freezing here in the Garden State, Vegas is the place to go! I guess I cant really judge b/w the two since I've never been to Vegas =(
