It had been a whole year since we were there last, our family cabin on Lake Wabedo in the Minnesota northwoods. After a quick flight to Minneapolis and a not so quick drive from the airport up into the woods, we made it. The ol' cabin survived the harsh winter, and was there to welcome us with strong forces.
A banner was there to welcome us, shortly followed by my father's cousins, the creators of the banner. The first night was surprisingly cold and we slept bundled up under the old quilts, planning to drive into town to get warmed clothes for the upcoming week.
But after awaking to a hot pot of oatmeal cooked over the old stove, the next day warmed up for us and we spent our time out on the lake.
We boated, and fished, and canoed, and tried water skiing,
And swam in the cold lake water.
In the evenings we all had dinner together in the cabin and toasted to our ancestors who built the cabins, and to those young and old who could enjoy them now.
The sun stayed out late up in the north woods, and calmed the lake the sleep.
And we never missed a sunset.
And the mornings were just as beautiful.
After a week, we said goodbye to the lake and ole cabin until next year.
