I've never been to Iowa and admittedly know nothing about the state. Iowa does seem, however, to be one of those middle-of-nowhere places where you wouldn't be surprised if its people acted completely differently from the rest of the country, though I'm sure you could say this about quite a few more states in the U.S. Nevertheless, I did find it funny when I came across the article titled, "What's Up Iowa?" The article complied a bunch of TIME poll results, showing in each that Iowa was the only state
to have the only different answer each time.

We just arrived in Iowa and it is a little off. They're to pushy and too many rules. >.<
No you're not wrong. I live on Illinois border to Iowa. Iowa is off. And they suck at driving. I hate hate hate driving in Iowa because of how stupid the drivers are. You would think in driver's ed they were taught what a turn signal or something of the sort was.
you are right about iowa... I live on the border too like the commenter above but I live in Nebraska. and this post kind of pisses me off cause just because we live in the middle of the united states does not make us weird people... you make it seem like we are aliens or something lol. and yes drivers from Iowa SUCK! so stupid I hate driving behind an Iowa driver lol.
It's so funny you ask that because I was starting to think the same thing! I've never been there but in the past few years have met a few ppl from there and there has always been something..off. I know it sounds horrible, but o well. It's been true in my life!
I think all you guys should fuck off if you don't live here. Sorry for the language. I'm an Iowa resident born and raised. And you know what you Illinois people? We hate _your_ driving. I live in Davenport just a few miles from the Mississippi river border between the two states, and whenever I drive over there I'm constantly afraid for my life because of all the bad drivers that surround me.
As for the rest of the people here, I've been to a lot of different states, and a different country, and people are the same everywhere. No one in Iowa is different from people in New York that I've met, or Nebraska, or Kansas, or Missouri, etc., etc. Not even in Canada. My friends there are the same as my friends here. We've got a lot of awesome tourist attractions like the arsenal, skybridge, lock and dam, our Mississippi Valley Fair which starts in a couple days, the races at the racetrack there, the tug fest, the list goes on and on. If we differ in opinion from the rest of the states, maybe that just means we are more unique than the rest of them. But that's just speculation on my part, not even an opinion. People everywhere are the same anyways: they disappoint me more and more every day.
How lame. I wonder when Iowa will quit being the brunt of the jokes. There are clearly far worse states, such as NE, SD, ND, WI, MI, KS, and that other one, you know who you are.
My beau is from Iowa and even though I am not, I think this post smacks of "state-ism" - for lack of a better word. Like "racism", ya know. Every state in the US has its ups and downs, just like if we compare country to country. But honestly, what's the point of comparing? Why can't we just take the good and the bad together?
@crystalbal90@xanga - I feel for you. Poor Iowans. :(
those polls don't make any sense. i disagreed with almost every answer and i am also from the great state of iowaaa... the comments under that buzzfeed post pretty much say it all.
@crystalbal90@xanga -
i totally hear you, a lot of people are being awfully rude....there are bad drivers EVERYWHERE!! I live just outside Atlanta, Georgia. NO ONE USES TURN SIGNALS ANYMORE. It's not an Iowa thing, or an Atlanta thing, its an everywhere thing. Didn't you know people buy their driver's licenses from wal-mart now!? Lol. (:
Anyways, I'd like to visit Iowa and all the so called "middle of nowhere" states. Just to see what they're really like (:
@x__RainOnHerParade@xanga - Thanks! I almost didn't expect any positive responses to my post but I was prepared for the worst so it's nice to see that! It's like I said - people everywhere are the same, sad strange and a little bit crazy. :3
@bella_esperanza@xanga - Thanks. =]
I was born in Iowa, and have lived here for most of my life, and I LOVE it here.! I have lived in Missouri, Illinois, Georgia, Kansas and Alabama also, and even in Germany for 3 years, and have visited more states than I can remember besides that, and crystalbal90 is right. People is people, no matter where they live. I think there is a difference between rural and urban and suburban, but you can find all 3 in every state. The only thing I don't like here is the extremes of summer & winter. I can take anything between 20* F and 85*F, no problem, but -20*F (with wind chills of -60*) and 100*F (with heat indexes of 120*) are a little hard to take. I like to stay indoors then. Ahh, the comfort of a climate controlled environment! :o)
I wonder who these people are who they polled? Maybe they were a bunch
of frat boys trying to be funny, who knows?, but they weren't "typical"
Iowans. And do they pick the SAME goofy bunch of people for EVERY pole? Come on! Give us a break! We really are VERY "typical" here in the heartland. We are the definition of typical. Seriously!
