I don't know the feeling but from what I've heard, having kids home for the summer can be nightmarish, especially when they complain of having nothing to do. Here, though, I found an article with a list of 100 "geeky" places you can take your kids to this summer. The list includes museums, historical sites, science centers and conventions. Maybe your kid isn't really the nerdy type, but neither am I, and even I found some pretty exciting things on this list. A Crayola factory tour? Even to a 20 year old, that sounds awesome.
The great thing about the list is that the places listed are all over the country; no need to travel very far to have some fun (though if you find something of interest far away it could be fun to take a road trip, granted your kids don't kill each other in the backseat).
