  • I'm a Woman Traveling to Greece Alone

I am planning on traveling to Athens, Greece and hopefully some surrounding islands in this coming month of August. I'm 24, female, and really excited!

I've done quite a bit of international traveling in the past, but none of them I was completely alone.  I really want to take this trip alone partly to prove to myself I can do it, but mostly because I want to experience this trip alone and use it as some kind of personal growth experience.

Has anyone else traveled to Greece? What was your experience? Any tips? For those who have traveled there before, do you think it's safe for me to do this alone? Thanks for any suggestions!!

Good for you.  I'm afraid to travel alone.  I feel like I should just do it.  I've been wanting to travel out west for quite some time, but I've always felt like traveling huge distances alone is dangerous.  Especially in a car.  I give you mad props for taking a trip like this.

I've never been to Greece, but I'd love to go someday! Hope you have lots of fun on your trip! =]

I can't travel alone, only because i'm too short (4'10") and i'd be mixed up for a 4th grader. >.>

I was just in Greece with my family this month. I'd be happy to answer questions about Greece--my parents came from there to the US, and I've visited 5 times. I think you would be safe, as long as you are careful to stay near other tourists. I can give more specific answers if you want.

I travel alone nonstop because I play professional tennis tournaments, I'm 21. I have been to greece, to athens and mytilini, really nice and friendly people. So much vibe there you will love it :) It can be scary to go alone but stay where there are a lot of people, never go out alone at night anywhere, that's all I can really say.

I have been to Greece and it was AMAZING!

The Greek people themselves are wonderful. Everywhere I went, they were so happy!

However, Athens DOES have some sketchy areas. For example, I was shopping by myself in the Plaka district, and a dress shop owner was trying to get me to go into a room under the shop...

The night isn't that bad by yourself, because the entire city was alive until 3 am. Just dont go down any dark alleys or anything and you should be good!

I traveled to Italy a few times by myself .....as far as personal growth........it was fantastic.I felt  such a personal victory , and I ended up doing more than I ever thought I would do. I am now planning a trip to Greece Alone !

Oh.... One thing...............The language barrier.............so it took me 3 tries to figure out what an Aliscalfa was. I was trying to go to Vulcano..............(Aeolean Islands) and I needed to find the boat to get there.........I had no idea it was called the Aliscalfa ! I would not trade that story for the world !

I will never forget these great memories !
