  • Where Would You Go for a Daycation?

There is no denying that vacationing can be expensive.  For some, a vacation could mean hundreds of dollars spent on airfare, hotels, food and other accommodations, not to mention days lost of work.

Many of us, including myself (a college student) just can't afford to fly off somewhere for a week, even if I have all summer to do it.  Instead of spending lots of dough on far-away travel, my friends and I have decided to try and fill our summer with daycations, vacations lasting only a day.   Maybe one day we’ll wake up early and drive four hours to Boston and come home late, or maybe another day we’ll drive just an hour to get to a nicer beach.  The only money we’d have to spend would be for gas or a bus, food and maybe a little shopping.

Once I was able to stop thinking about the far-away places I really wanted to go to (California, Vegas, London, Paris… sigh) I was able to realize all of the cool places not too far from where I live that I could take advantage of as a mini-vacation.

Have you ever taken a daycation?  What attracts you close to where you live?  Where would you daycation this summer?

I think a simple park or an amusement park nearby is fine. Those who live by the beach are really in for a good time. Anything can be a daycation. I think church is a nice one.

My friends and I have done things like these.

We drive to Galveston, Texas (from College Station, Texas - about a two hour drive) to go to the beach every so often. Albeit, the beach SUCKS. But, it's still sand and water, I guess. :P

We have also driven to Arlington (Dallas/Fort Worth) to go to Six Flags Over Texas (3 hour drive). We are planning on also going to the Six Flags in San Antonio (3 hour drive as well).

We have planned for this summer to also drive up to Oklahoma to go to some waterfalls (I forgot the name, but my friend knows). However, this one will be more than a day trip from College Station. I imagine we'll spend a night in DFW (where my friend's parents live).

I've been on a trip to Austin, Texas with friends as well to just hang out there 'cause we gotta face it, tiny College Station doesn't have much of a "party scene". This was about a 2 hour drive.

We've gone to Houston, Texas as well to the Zoo and Museum districts. Though, my parents live there, so we usually stay the night.

We do these kinds of "daycation" things all the time. They're fun.
