As someone who writes for Tripcrazed, I obviously love to travel. The traveling I’ve done, though, has lasted at most five weeks at a time. I’ll go somewhere for a bit, and then I’ll come back home. I have lived in different states, but I have never truly lived abroad, at least not for more than two weeks. Like many people, I’d love to spend some more time abroad. That’s why I found
this article in
The New York Times pretty intriguing, though I’m not quite sure I could live this extreme lifestyle.
The article, in part, tells the story of Emerson Breneman, a man who, since graduating high school, has spent each winter traveling the world for months and working during the summer in Cape Cod.
“[I] Make as much money as I can in the summer, and stay away as long as I can in the winter—until I’m dead broke,” Breneman told the newspaper of his lifestyle.
After Breneman saves some money this summer, he’ll find another country to spend a few months in. His last adventure was exploring though Mexico for four months.
What do you think of Breneman’s lifestyle? Could you ever live like this if it meant getting to see the world?

If I had no family then yea. But I like coming home and spending time with my siblings.
I want to travel at least 1 month every year. Thats how I'd like to spend my life.
Sounds wreckless
@MangoWOW@xanga - I agree, if I had no family I would definately travel more. I'm living out of a suitcase now but it's all travel between different family homes.
wow crazy! it's too uncertain for me! although it does sound kinda romantic
Oh god no way!
I'll die without booze, babes and boombox
Sure. More opportunities to get the perfect picture! Though, I wouldn't want to do it for more than a few years.
honestly i couldn't. i want too much and would think that i need too much so i couldn't live like that. but i admire people who do it.
I've always dreamed about kind of doing something like that. too bad that i have to actually consider my career...
i'm still hanging on to the idea of hiking around shikoku for a summer one year tho.
I'm a true flighty sagitarius, but I'm also a very earthy/grounded person. I love travel, but I would hate the uncertanty of no money, not being grounded somewhere, etc...
That sounds so cool, doubt I'd ever be able to live like that though.
Yep sounds fun. Although one can travel more if you get a job where you wish to go, and explore that country/region for a while... then move on from there :)
Nice places to start: Lonely Planet and Travel social networking sites like www.couchsurfing.org
Aside from having to leave my family for an extended period of time, it sounds fun. Nothing in life is ever really certain or guaranteed no matter how much you plan, so why not?
That is my DREAM. Unfortunately, I have too many college loan payments and too involved of a family, lol.
Although I should add that I wouldn't want to do that for the rest of my life, just a few years or so. Maybe like fourish. Like a second round of college. :)
Truthfully, that sounds exactly like what I'd like to do with my life.
That sounds like an amazing retirement plan =].
I would absolutely love to do that. My husband and I are always pointing out places that a wanderer could stay, like under piers at beaches, subway stations, 24-hour stores, abandoned buildings, etc...I already have a "homeless" Hawaiian vacation planned :D
Another thing I've always wanted to do is be a nomadic photographer (self explanatory...)
