Assalamu alaikum or Shalom Aleichem
Hijar asked if I would do this so here it is.
Why I cover my hair. I believe that the bible says that I should. I veil all of my hair. At this point I do not cover my neck but I am thinking of doing so. I am even thinking of the possibility of switching to niqab. I am trying my best to be modest. And I have been studying about niqab. And it just seems like it would be very modest to wear niqab. I know that most would consider me very, very modest already....but sometimes I just feel really drawn to niqab.
I believe that the bible tells us that we should be modest and also that part of modesty is covering our hair. I also want to make it easier for my "brothers" to keep their mind pure. It would not be right for me as their sister to tempt them to sin.
The social results of choosing to cover my hair: I have been called many different names. I have also been told to "Go back to where I came from," which I find slightly funny because I am white as a ghost and was born in Lancaster County Pennsylvania... where would they like me to go?
Reactions to my head-covering in the work place: I am a stay at home mom so my home is my work place. I will say this though...everyone at my children's school recognizes me and knows who my children are so I never have to explain who I am and what I am there for. They know me by sight.
How to wear the style (or styles) of head-coverings that I wear you can read this
post.
Why I chose one particular style head-covering over another... I believe I should cover all of my hair. I am still studying about covering my neck (which I do at times and other times not) and about Niqab.
How deciding to cover my hair has improved my life...I feel that G-d has blessed me for following it.
Maasalaama or Shalom.

Why is this on Tripcrazed?
I enjoyed reading your post..
Having worked in many Muslim countries many of my women staff members covered their heads. I am not sure I agree with the temptation argument but I respect your point of view.
Here is a question, sometimes my colleagues would have several daughters, some they would cover and some they would not...the children were too young to have made their own choice. Is there another reason for choosing some to be covered?@Gentemann@xanga - Some believe in starting children covering from infant on up. Some believe in letting them go until they reach puberty. and still others believe in letting the child wait and choose on their own.
thanks...we need to learn more about the Muslim faith...I lived and worked with Muslims and still don't understand as much as I should or would like to.
I see girls at my school wearing head coverings like yours. I think it's so beautiful.
why not save yourself the trouble and the money going toward cloth and haircare and shave your head then? i have been considering it since it's so hot here but the two things stopping me are worry about lost job prospects and my boyfriend's wishes
@LadyLibellule@xanga - I wanted to ask the same question. I thought this blog was about travel and traveling, not about religious faith.
@LadyLibellule@xanga - haha, i thought the same thing. wtf, tripcrazed? desperate for posts?
Hmm, I'd like to see how Muslims react to non-Muslims wearing similar styles like the hijab (are they flattered? Do they even care?).
@mycontinuity@xanga - Muslims are not the only people who wear head coverings.
Can we stop talking about this? This comes up, like, three times a week, at least.
The subject has been beaten to death.
@walkintotheseaaa@xanga - for some of us it is part of our life. It is part of who we are, so of course we will write about it some. Just like I love following the Islamic Fashion Shows....(It is just like people love watching other fashion shows except I can wear this stuff)
There are many Xanga people who wear veils/headcoverings/hijab
@sierrraa@xanga - I meant covering one's head in a traditionally Muslim style, not just covering your head. That's why I mentioned the hijab, that's a traditional style worn by some Muslims. Obviously the writer of this post is not Muslim and she covers her head.
being born witht the sin of your "oldest parents" cannot be erased. That is what the bible tells us. Controlling your urges is another. If how I decide to cover my hair or any part of my body is up to me. The interpretation of what modesty is different from one person to the other. Its all about respect.
