What Do You Do for Memorial Day?
For most, Memorial Day is the unofficial kick-off to summer. For years I was a lifeguard and the Memorial Day weekend marked the opening day of the pool for the summer. This also meant that for years, I never had plans beyond spending all weekend at the pool, yelling at kids on the diving board, taking out trash, stealing sodas from the snack bar, and twirling a plastic whistle around my pointer finger.
This year, I am officially "off duty" and will be heading to beautiful Southern Chester County Pennsylvania for some cook-outs, some camping, fishing, beer drinking, and relaxing.
What are your plans for the long weekend? Are these plans similar to those of your childhood? Are you headed Down the Shore?

its my birthday weekend so i plan to enjoy the sun, party, swim & tannnnnnnnnn. and of course find the store sales :)
I'm taking Fuu and the boys to lay flowers at Veterans cemetary and to do general cleanup as needed there. Then we will probably have a BBQ with family and neighbors. We are an old military family so there will be lots of talk about wars past and friends lost in them....No one in the family is getting decorated today so we have no big cermonies to attend........I'm hoping for lovely weather....
yeah, I'm a lifeguard, so that sounds about like what I'll be doing :)
I usually wait for someone else to make plans and I follow them.
Nothing special since I live in Canada...
@echois23@xanga - That sounds really special and also keeping in touch with what the holiday is actually about. Too many people get caught up in having a long weekend or shopping, etc. so I am glad to hear that your plans involve remembrance. Enjoy!
@abkerr - Thanks, we always have a great time when all the family comes together... No end to the laughs...
We've already had ours.
Due to it being the first warm day of the season, most people barbecue. My family doesn't do much. It is better to stay out of the craziness that way.
