Do the British Imitate American Accents?
I imitate a British accent at least once a day. Are any of you British, or do any of you know someone who is British with a spiffy British accent? How often do the British imitate American accents?

I would assume so.
There will always be an imitation of another country's accent in every country.
Good question! Thankfully I do not know anyone with a British accent. Sorry, but I can't stand 'em.
I wonder what a British person would sound like imitating my southern accent...
Does House count?
yes
i live in britain and they dont really try out an american accent as often as you hear americans imitating theirs. there are enough accents in britain to keep them amused imitating.
the irish, on the other hand, collectively seem to love doing southern accents for some reason.

@wonderlanndd@xanga - haha, that's so interesting to know. thanks for sharing!
When my cousin from england came to visit
she kept making fun of how i said apple and banana
then proceeded to say OMG in an "american" accent
If you have an accent, people will make fun of you. I tend to do the choppy "Cantonese Chinese" accent to people, even though I am Chinese. :P
I'd like to hear someone with a British accent try to sound like a Texan.. Haha.
@Audiofreak18@xanga - says you.
I've got a british accent and tend to imitate other british accent e.g liverpudlian. Sometimes I do an american accent, but not all that much.
I really don't have the time to try and talk in a different way than anything that comes naturally.
yes. yes we do. mostly when saying something that sounds stereotypically american maybe? or like quoting films/tv/whatever.
I don't have the Jersey accent, but that'd be fun to hear from a British person. :D
We Americans think British people sound funny. British people think Americans sound funny. New Yorkers pronounce Oregon as "OR-EE-GON"
Oregonians pronounce it as "OR EH GIHN"
When I try to talk in a sophisticated British accent, it ends up sounding like a Cockney accent.
being British, I even try to sound it.. trying London accents is what I do xP... american accents? .. never~ o_o
i grew up in London so yeah i sound Brit even now when i'm back in singapore. But i find the American accent harder to imitate.
ive met loads of british people who seemed charmed by the idea of using the american accent (generally a little maliciously, rather than fondly)... http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1302690053&ref=profile#/video/video.php?v=1026773391915
i'm not sure if this video will work or not, but basically it's two english guys talking about the mall, jerry springer, 'massive mcdonalds,' and other things they've deemed to be 'american.'
in general, the imitations i've seen have been directed more towards valley girls, etc, rather then just your average american.
@the_meadow_kite@xanga - that video was pretty funny.
The people on Jerry Springer make me want to give up hope for the human race. Â
I like the  British way of speaking, because it's so much more crisp and articulate than the American way.  But I'd much rather have my New York "accent" than a Southern one.Â
If I spoke as any of them do, I would imitate an American accent as much as possible
I've heard Brits try to imitate it but, Hugh Laurie and some other actors/actresses aside, I've never heard it come out well.
I think the wonderlanndd's point was good too. There's a heck of a lot of accent variety within Britain. Kentish, Yorkish, Welsh, Scottish, Cornish, different parts of London. My Brit friends told me I sounded too posh when I tried imitating it. And after I got home, they told me I sounded a lot more American. Can't win!
I'm British but I don't have the spiffy accent like Americans portray us to have, this would mostly be because I am not from London. my accent though British is not one Americans can imitate well haha or even understand that easy. I live in the North-West of England so have one of the many Lancashire accents.
Personally i find American accents really annoying =/ I never try to imitate it. Nor do i know people that do.
why, for fucks sake, would you imitate an american accent if you have a beautiful british one.
On the last day of class, my British professor was goofing around and started reading the instructions for his evaluation forms with an American accent. I thought it was pretty funny (& pretty good too! :P).
