Bike Around Town - 15 Bike-Friendly Cities!
When the weather is nice, I try to make the most of my time outdoors. Even when traveling to places when the sun allows it, I'll normally book a bike tour. This gives me the chance to learn about the city I'm visiting while taking a nice bike ride around town.
I've done this while in Munich, Germany and also in Vienna, Austria and other cities. I stumbled upon this list that might give you ideas on where you can travel to next that will give you a nice bike riding tour around the city.
Here's the list I found in this article for 15 Most Bike Friendly Cities. You can refer to the article for more details on each city:
- Amsterdam
- Barcelona
- Berlin
- Copenhagen
- Paris
- Boulder
- Chicago
- Davis
- Ottawa
- Portland
- San Francisco
- Beijing
- Capetown
- Bogota
- Perth
Do you ever go bike riding? Would you go on a bike tour?

I lived in Boulder for a while and loved biking around there! When I first got to Boulder, I was really shocked by how many people biked instead of driving. No one does that where I'm from. It's such a cute little town.
It's no wonder San Fran was selected, climbing up all those hills! But the free ride down, I bet it would feel like a roller coaster
a lot of cities in china are bike friendly...
hmm davis california? my bf is from there, maybe that is why he's such a hardcore biker
I want to go bike around all of those cities.
Did you know that there are more bikes in the Netherlands than the its population?
Cape Town??? Noooo, really? I didn't see that many bikes in eKapa. They have some good trails, and the sidewalks are pretty wide. But you ought not take any of the main roads for fear of your life. If the mini buses go there, you shouldn't. Then again, the roads are pretty wide in most places. And traffic is REALLY slow once you get away from campus, significant shopping districts and main roads. I still wish I'd biked to Fish Hoek, Constantia, and Franschhoek...
(aside, if you decide to wine tour in Cape Town, definitely go to Buitenverwachting. The wine is incredible and it's the only place I toured that employed non-whites--coloured--in a position other than grape picker.)
Olympia and/or Seattle should definitely make the list. I went to Olympia and it has an incredible bike trail to the beach. The best, most testicularly excruciating 40 mile bike ride I've ever had. (sorry for the tmi)
I never have but I would love to do a bike tour. I hope to do one in Amsterdam later this year.
biking in amsterdam is amaaaazing! it was a true joy to bike to work/...everywhere every day. riding a bike in los angeles or saint louis means getting hit by cars.
@black_lie@xanga - Plus, not only is Davis flat as flat (making it easy for anybody to bike), but it also has more bikes per square feet than Shanghai, China.
That's saying something...
i recall seeing a huuge number of bike rental places in san francisco, way more than any other city ive been to. so makes sense :)
Holland, Michigan (USA) has an amazing network of bike paths that run through the woods along the shore of Lake Michigan. Even a novice cyclist can pedal easily for miles as the biggest hill is the railroad overpass. Opportunities for pit stops abound at several public beaches and there are even wetland preserves that offer bird watching and hiking.
I've been to Amsterdam, Paris, Chicago, Ottawa, San Fransisco, and Beijing, and they're all crazy about biking.
Do you know how many times in my life I've almost been run over by a bicycle?
@the_meadow_kite@xanga - we're going to amsterdam in the fall and plan to do a bike tour. your comment got me excited!
I haven`t touched a bike in years.. Five maybe? But it sounds like fun. And since I`ll be at Davis next year, I`ll get plenty of practice, what with rushing to classes in the morning and all.
