  • A Rather "Sweet" Glimpse of My Hometown

    Tucked into a bend in the Ohio River lies my hometown of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Established in 1802, my river city has so much to offer if you'd love a glimpse into the past...and if you have a sweet tooth.

    Since 1891, Schimpff's Confectionery has sat at 327 Spring Street, enticing the sweet tooth's of all who pass by.

    It's withstood 3 floods, two of which are marked on this pole, and the other, referred to by the locals as the "Great Flood of '37 hit higher than the second floor of the building.

    Schimpff's has a small cafe in the back of their candy shop, with a real working soda fountain-

    The shelves and display cases are filled to the brim with fresh hard candy and chocolate, and I cannot go in here without some form of extra cash on me.

    Yeah, but what's the big deal about this store other than it's old, right? I'm getting to that part now- The candy making area!
    {Warren and Jill, the owners, are featured in the following pictures. As I was watching, they offered me a red hot (pictured), and I got to sample some chocolate, too. Oh yeah, they do that for everybody!}

    {So yummy! Red Hots!!}

    The candy pot

    {They put the sugar through this, and it shapes the candy to whatever shape they want!}

    {There's Warren in the front of the store!}

    But wait! If your mouth isn't watering yet and you're a history buff, check this out- The Candy Museum

     So...if you're ever in the Louisville area and you want to satisfy your sweet tooth, check out Schimpff's Confectionery in downtown Jeffersonville, one of Indiana's hidden treasures.
