Where to Live After Graduation? The Netherlands, London, or Hong Kong?
Where am I going live in the future when I graduate?
I asked myself this question many times before. To be honest, I don't have the answer. One thing is sure... I won't live in Leeuwarden, the small city I am studying now. Leeuwarden is a nice city to study, there are a lot of students and enough pubs and clubs to have fun during your spare time. But it's not really special. So where can I find a good job in event management, is it the Netherlands, London or Hong Kong?
Here are my reasons: If I stay in The Netherlands, I will either live and work in Amsterdam or The Hague, these two multicultural cities have a great history and are in the top 5 biggest cities of the Netherlands. I found out that bigger cities are a lot more convenient than villages or smaller cities.
My other options are London or Hong Kong. London because it is a really nice city to live although the accommodations are quite hard to find but there are a lot of opportunities to find a good job in the event industry. London has everything I need, the shops are open 'til late and on Sundays, there are great pubs and clubs, Theatre shows, a lot of sport events, and of course friendly people. It is not far from the Netherlands which means I can visit my friends and family easily.
I fell in love with Hong Kong when I went on a six months exchange program last year. Hong Kong is an amazing city to me. The mixture of Western and Asian culture is the best of two worlds. You can get around easily because almost all street names and signs are in English and Cantonese. The transportation system is really easy to use even when it is crowded it still does not feel inconvenient to me. I love almost all Asian food, Dim Sum, Chinese noodle, Sushi, food from the Sichuan area but the best thing is when I am tired of eating Asian food in Hong Kong you always can find some western food. If you want to grab a drink in the pub or club Tsim sha Tsui or Lan Kwai Fong. If Hong Kong is too crowded, I just get on a ferry and go to one of the many islands around Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a 24/7 city even more than London, but it's far away from family and friends.
My goal is to visit and travel around as many countries as possible. I just like seeing the world and I enjoy all my traveling moments. So where should I live in the future? I still don't know.
All Tips are welcome!

toronto (my current city)
montreal
milan
boston
I would say Hong Kong, but I'm biased since my family is from there and it's the only place of your choices that I've been to haha.
I'd choose Amsterdam. It's not too big but never boring!
:) to london lad! xx
I went to Hong Kong before and I loved it.
I've never been to London or Hong Kong, but Amsterdam is a BEAUTIFUL city and you will never run out of things to do!
Wow. I can't help you because I think all three of your options are great! Maybe you can live at all three throughout your lifetime. Good luck!
Traveling is awesome!
Wow, that's a tough one. I don't think I can answer!
never been to hk or the hague, but london seemed almost too big. i lived in amsterdam for three months and it was amazing! i have a bunch of pics if you're interested: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2007346&id=1302690053&l=ac422f8c3f
or amsterdam and london/england (<--brighton was way cooler than london, and is supposed to be like the small, seaside version of london) http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2007907&id=1302690053&l=7687a4908d
best of luck, im sure that wherever you end up you'll find some great stuff.
oh, it is really hard to find housing in amsterdam, though. there are a lot of people there, and not a lot of places to live. (but so many houseboats!!)
london sounds nice
it's really nice to see someone like my place. i live in hongkong but i really want to move. it being so wet and hot makes me want to go.

I have been to Amsterdam many times. I really like it because it is not that big. But it is extremely hard to find a nice house in Amsterdam. It seems easier in Hong Kong or London even.
and you can ride a bike, I pretty much was born on a bike just as most other dutch people. I really miss it now since I am in London. I did miss it in Hong Kong as well :P
idk abt the other 2places but as a hongkong person i cant hate living here no more.the pressure here is too much to deal with,just name any metropolis sickness and ull so score.the place is too spoiled by materialism and greed tht cynical and nonchalant ppl are everywhere....
though i wont deny its a cool place as for traveling and doing business earning money.not like we can love money more huh.
for me,my dream place is California.

I wonder how Montreal is like! I heard it is a great city!
Have you been there ? how is it ?
I do like Milan but with my educational background I do not think I will find a job there. Love the weather over there

What do you mean with the pressure? I know it is crowded but I did have a great time in Hong Kong, I think I don't want to live in Hong Kong for more than 15 years but still I think i will enjoy it.
i'm currently in exchange in hk, i was only supposed to stay for 6 months but i extended and stayed another semester, i'm leave in about 2 months and i'm not looking forward to it.Â
hk is such a diverse place, there is always things to do and always new things to try and eat. The food is decent priced and the people are friendly~Â
I plan to go live in hk after i graduate at the end of this year. so in love with it~Â
and is that a photo from the bridge near the student residence @ cityu in hk? hahahah~Â
@kissing_intherain@xanga -
Yes the photo is made from the bridge at cityu.
I really liked that school, so near to my flat. I am only afraid it is expensive to buy a flat in hk. I am really thinking of working there for a couple of years!
It is expensive to buy a flat here, yup. Well, Hong Kong is not really an ideal place to work at, so, I would say Amsterdam. :D
@unreasonableneo@xanga -
May be ill work a couple of years in Amsterdam first and then move on to the next city hehe.
why / what is wrong with working in hk??
and I am studying communication with minors in management and event management and i really want to have my own event company. I think there are still a lot possibilities in hk for me.
If you are going to work for someone, you are likely to have a hard time because most employees here are overworked.
Of course, there are always possibilities and good luck.
@unreasonableneo@xanga -
hehe as long as it is paid overwork its is alright for some years i guess
I am also thinking of setting up a trading line between hong kong . zhenzhen and the Netherlands. The products from China they sell it for almost 5 - 10 times the price you will pay in China.
still think there is money in it hehe

Great pictures damn, are those lomo pictures or are you just very good with a camera? Im jealous I want to learn photography like that damn!!
@dutchstudent@xanga - yes, unfortunately, hk is one of the most expensive places to buy property...from what i hear...but prices in some places are dropping at the moment because of the poor economy..maybe you could try some of those...Â
