Underground Beggars and Entertainers
If you've never been on a New York subway, let me be the first to tell you that you're going to meet some interesting people down there, specifically the beggars and the performers. If you have, I'm sure you have your own interesting stories to share.
Here's my story of a beggar I ran into: It was just another typical day on the subway heading to work. I sat there with my eyes closed dozing in and out of sleep. A voice breaks the silence, "Ladies and Gentleman, may I please have your attention?" "Oh brother," I thought to myself, "Not another beggar". He started on his sob story. It turns out he can't find work and no one wants to hire him because he hurt his leg. He's been thrown out of his house and his wife has left him. He's been starving for days. I open my eyes to peek to take a look at this poor fellow. I see him between a crack of people on their morning commute to work and see him, a large heavy set fellow, heading towards me. "Typical. He doesn't look poor or hungry," I thought. I close my eyes again and continue listening. I can now feel his breath on me. "Any donations will be greatly appreciated. I'm disabled. I'm hungry. I have lung disease." What did he just say? Lung disease?? I opened my eyes and notice that the crowd around me had suddenly dispersed. I hightailed it out of the area.
It's amazing just how talented these subway performers are. I've been serenaded by the sweetest voices and I've caught myself thinking many times just how these people don't have record deals. You'll see a variety of talent ranging from singers to drummers to dancers.
Don't worry! They're not all like that. What happens when you combine a beggar and a person with tons of talent? Subway performers!
Do you have any interesting stories of a beggar you ran into? Are there talented street performers where you live?

I've seen some really really awesome performers in the subway.
That's so interesting.
Dude, the best subway performers I've run into were these two black kids in the NY metro. One was dancing and the other was playing Usher's Yeah... ON VIOLIN!! I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Oftentimes in NY I see people in a breakdancing circle, especially near Times Square.
This one time my bf and I ran into a clown battalion or something. It was kind of creepy.
But other than that I always seem to run into old Chinese guys playing simple tunes on the erhu.
those two guys in the subway were really fun to watch
People who break dance to solicit funds in public areas like parks and stuff kind of discredit its publicity :o
I was break dancing with my friends just for fun at the park, and as someone passed by I heard the guy faintly say "damn beggars." ftl...regardless of me being a teenager that had nice clothes on, numerous people just felt I was trying to get money, a guy even gave me a dollar which I refused after I told him.
I've seen people begging on the streets. My one ex who lived in the metrop told me not to give them anything. I felt that was a little cold at the time. I usually give them some change or food but I prefer to give money to street musicians.
omg then the kid starts crying.
=[
I give to those that have amazing talent. I'm tired of the Peruvian flute bands though.
That looks like a Boston red Line Train. Are you sure that was in New York?
