Vietnam Minivans and Their Passengers
Have you ever seen a minivan in Vietnam? Well, the above photo pretty much sums it up. Minivans aren't needed in Vietnam if people can pile onto a bike. It's cheaper and uses less gas, I suppose. I've seen more people piled on a bike than this. These families have a way of placing each family member on their one scooter, it's pretty amazing how they do it.
Check out that cute little baby just hanging out on his mom's lap taking in his surroundings. The kid in front looks almost bored as if it's an everyday thing to get to ride on his dad's bike. I remember when my friend offered me a ride to the beach on his motorcycle, I was giggling and laughing the whole way, wind in my hair, having a blast!
You have to hand it to the dad. Driving around in Vietnam isn't an easy feat, from what I've seen. The lines on the street are more for decoration and street lights? What street lights? I wonder if there's a school for teaching people how to dodge cars and pedestrians on the busy streets of Saigon.
Have you seen any interesting forms of transportation in other countries?

That doesn't look safe.
That's what my parents did with me, except I sat behind my dad. haha
Bicycles on highways in China. You see THOUSANDS of them.
And Russell Peters made a joke about the Vietnamese mini-van. :)
I've been back to Vietnam twice. Their driving is crazy over there! There's bikes and mopeds everywhere. I do love riding on the bike with my hair blowing in the wind.
Sounds just like India!! My favorite pic is one that my friend took when we were in Chennai. There's a man driving a motorcycle with a toddler in his lap who is holding a bag of groceries. Behind him is an older child with another bag of groceries and at the back of the bike, riding side saddle, is a woman wearing a sari with a baby in one arm and another bag of groceries in the other.
It was priceless!!
I grew up there. That is a common site to me since bicycles and motorcycles are everywhere!!!
And we actually don't go that fast on motorcycles at all in Vietnam since it's almost impossible with all the traffic. We go by km not miles, and I remember the fastest was probably 35-40 km per hour.
Another country that I've been to with similar style of transportation, but with motored vehicles, is La Republica Dominicana.
Great picture! Everyone's so calm about it over there.
There must not be a market for babyseats in Vietnam!
look up ostrich riding
Damn, I'm going to do that here in the U.S. those minivans get pretty expensive.
That looks so crazy! That can't be safe, but I guess if it works, it works!
hahah i think its really cute being a couple on the scooter. somehow i like to sit in the back and the girls told me to hold them tight or the scooter would swirl around. ;]]
i even brought a helmet back for memory. ;]
its so much fun =)
I used to sit in the front when my Dad rode me and Mom to everywhere ;) Nice memories, nice time back then. Now we do have to wear helmets whenever we ride, so yeah, no wind in the air anymore :( Kinda miss it though, but helmets are always better and safer.
We still can see that image sometimes here in VN, but not so often though. And oh well, I've seen worse :D :D :D
I like the minivan, and want to riding it.
it's quite crazy in Vietnam - no streetlights and just weaving in and out of traffic....just something their accustom to - however, i would be scared for my life if i were to put my family in one of those minivans.
