  • I'm Craving Spanish Tortilla

One of the things I miss most about my time in Spain with my host mother is her food. My mouth is watering just thinking about it now. The Spanish Tortilla. Yum. So simple, but reminds me of my home in Spain.

You know how there's certain foods that only your own mom can make? Well, it was like this with my host mother.  I really miss her spanish tortillas. I have yet to find it here, but maybe I haven't been looking hard enough. I'll make a point to search online for it tomorrow. If anyone in New York City knows where to get it, please let me know!

She made it just right and just how I liked it. I knew I'd miss it so one day I asked her for a lesson on how to make it and she showed me. I haven't been able to replicate it the way she does it! I've burned it, undercooked it, and just plain mess it up every time!

And it's a simple recipe too. Oil, potatoes, eggs, and whatever else I wanted to add to it. One of my favorite adds is red peppers. My tummy is growling just thinking about it and looking at photos just kill me. It could also be that I'm just hungry right now too.

Another dish that my host mother often made me as a treat was her paella. Paella is a delicious rice dish that I've had here so when I'm missing it, I know where to find it. But like I said. My host mother has spoiled me and I miss the paella that she makes.

Even though I'm sad to be missing some of my favorite foods, I think that I just miss my host mother sometimes too and I associate her with her special cooking. And sometimes I just miss the whole experience itself, living in a different culture, learning the language and new things everyday.

What are some foods you miss from your travels?
