When I Grow Up...
The last few weeks have been nothing but college related. Do I want to go to California? Do I want to go that deep into debt? Should I drop my first choice for one that isn't expensive...and would it be worth it?
With that in mind, I kept thinking to myself about jobs I'd be interested in. I've got a handful of things I'd like to do, maybe not for a career, but at least for the experience. Some are more than possible, while others present a very slim chance without a dedicated degree.
DJ - (Surprise, a rave kid who wants to be a DJ) Who DOESN'T want hundreds/thousands of people screaming your name. Completely losing their minds to the music you've created! I take music very seriously (if that makes sense) and I love when someone loves the music I present to them.Bartender - These guys and girls are always cool in my eyes. Always calm and cool behind the bar while serving the masses, with the occasional flair tender mixing it up with bottle tricks. Usually always dressed in black from head to toe.
Aerialist - Minus the spandex, I'd like to give this a shot. If only to learn how its done and to increase my strength/flexibility. Not so much a contortionist, but still amazingly lithe in ways that impress me. AND you're in the air! I would totally run away and join the circus if I got good enough!Scientist- Since I was young I've always wanted to be a mad scientist. Sadly, I'd probably have to keep my sanity, but whatever. As I got older I shaped the vague "scientist" title into something more direct, maybe a microbiologist, maybe a chemist. The mental projection of myself would love to work for the CDC. Handling and working with some of the worlds worst disease. Finding cures for the world, or weaponizing them to destroy it.
Professional Poker Player - I thoroughly enjoy playing poker. A game I learned by watching Maverick, the movie with Mel Gibson hundreds of times. I don't follow it, but I will watch the game if it's on tv. Watching and playing are two totally different things, so I've learned recently. I don't have an editing department to make me look good! I've been playing online a bit; I'm not great, but I'm not bad either. And yes, I am a Daniel Negreanu fanboy.
Pilot For the USAF - This one I actually applied for. I met most of the criteria to become a pilot, but I was too short. The recruiter told me I could work with radar or something equally lame. No! I want to fly, not sit in a bunker somewhere! I really felt let down, moreso then I should have. First time I've actually been denied due for something due to my height (minus theme park rides). I've grown a bit since then, but now the desire is gone. I'm sure it would still be quite the experience though...
Storm Chaser - I'm a guy who can always appreciate a good storm. Living in NJ, MAYBE we'll get some hail, MAYBE a handful of actual thunderstorms.T-storms are great and all, but I can't imagine the rush you must feel as you're driving towards a massive tornado. I could totally get into this job...Maybe a little to much. I'd more then likely be killed within the first year. I could totally see myself caught up in the adrenaline, rocking out to some heavy drum and bass, while accidentally driving into the tornado's lift zone.Some others -
Archaeologist (Digging stuff up is cool!)
Egyptologist (Digging stuff up in Egypt is cool!)
Stripper (I dance enough already, I could totally shake my ass for money)
Psychiatrist ("How does that make YOU feel?")
Photographer (On my way to becoming one)
If you could have any job anywhere in the world? What would it be and where?

thanks for wanting to subscribe to my blog. how'd you come across it? :)
the first two jobs would be amazing.
I would love to be a photographer. That's this fourteen year old's dream ^_^
I would love to become a writer, all I've ever wanted since that day my first grade teacher asked us "Kids, what do you wanna be when you grow up?"
i wouldnt want to be any of those... :P
Seriously? No tornadoes in NJ? No fair!! We get at least 15 here!! And that's just in the spring!!! I'd HATE to be a storm chaser.
My dream jobs are: Meteorologist, weather historian and photographer.
Wow..those careers all sound awesome!
I'm a writer, it's what I am secondary to being female, lol. But I would never want to make that my career; I think it would ruin the joy of it. I'm working in college toward being a TV producer, or otherwise something behind the scenes in television. Unfortunately I have to go through four years of journalism hublub to get into TV when I don't actually want to be a journalist. lol {Sigh}
you wanted to be a pilot in the AF? thats awesome...
how tall do you have to be though?
when i tell people im joining the air force, they always ask if i'm going to be a pilot ha. but apparently only 4% of the AF are pilots...
@jms2508@xanga - I think around 5'7? 5'8 ish? Can't recall it was a while ago, but I was so let down!!!
@AnchorsAwayx@xanga - Aww, what would ya wanna be then!?!?
@Sorrows_xx_Soliloquy@xanga - Me too! Good luck to us both then!
@giventodreams__x@xanga - Definitely!
@Audiofreak18@xanga - I'll trade you our still weather for your tornadoes!
I want to be a bench warmer for the New York Knicks then I'd get to live in a nice place for free because I'll be sitting around and getting paid.
@Lordv16@xanga - oh wow. well im too short ha.
i didnt want to be a pilot anyways.
you said you applied though, what do you mean? don't you have to join to have a chance at becoming a pilot?
@jms2508@xanga - Oh well that's good! I can't help but think the greatness of the pilot comes from his/her motivation, not their height! And mini jets would be so much cooler! Hah!
When I was debating this, I asked the AF recruiter/representative who was trying to get me to sign up. I told him I was interested and we had a couple of sit downs before he told me I was too short. So I didn't apply, apply, as in application, but I took the required tests and all that.
If I could have a job anywhere in the world, it'd be everywhere in the world. I'd want a job that can take me anywhere at any time.
Though Egyptology is fantastic.
