  • Washington DC Will Soon Blossom Again

Each year, Washington DC holds a huge National Cherry Blossom Festival.

Cherry blossoms bloom only once a year and this year, their peak blooming period is April 3 - April 9. And the weekend of April 4-5 is when most of the festivities, parades, and activities for everyone in the family and youth of all ages can join in on.

I'm excited to say that this year, I will be attending and I can't wait to feast my eyes on all those beautiful cherry blossom trees that were a gift to the U.S. all those years ago.

I booked 2 bus tickets for my husband and me to head to DC from NY on April 3 with another couple. I'm planning on a weekend of relaxation and an enormous amount of picture taking.

Do you plan on going to any cherry blossom festivals this year? Have you ever seen a cherry blossom tree in bloom?

I've been trying to go for years now, and I think that this year I might finally be able to make it as well.  :Ă¾

I went once when I was really young. All I remember is my baby sister tried to eat some of the blossoms, haha

The DC area is home for me and I usually make it out to see the blossoms. Pictures just don't do them justice. Hey, I'll even brave the tourists to see them

I saw them last year at the tail end of their bloom.  They were pretty, but obviously not as fantastic as their peak. One year I'll go back and catch them!

It's really lovely~!  I went last year and also checked out the Japanese Festival.  This year the Japanese Festival lands on April 4th, so I figure why not do both?  Check out the Cherry Blossoms and then eat away at the Japanese Festival =)  You'll enjoy it!  I'll be going this year again and will take lot of pictures =)

Here's a couple of pics from last year:

Oh man, I wanna go!  I've never been or seen one - I would love to do it this year if possible.  Thanks for letting me know when!

@ImprezaGirl@xanga - Your photos are absolutely amazing. I looked at your other photos too, hope you don't mind. You're a great photographer.

I think I'll add the Japanese festival to my itinerary now. Thank you for the suggestion!

I was in Japan two years ago trying to catch the peak of Cherry Blossom.  I saw the very ,very beginning of that, with just a few trees in full bloom.  I can imagine how it would look like when the whole area or hill side is full of cherry blossom.  I also plan to see the one in Washington. D.C.  One trouble I have is that Cherry blossoms only for a very, very short time, and the timing changes every year.  It is impossible for me to time my vacation to match that.  Someday, someday.  If I am lucky, or retired someday far away.

I plan to go, but I live like 30 mins away so it's no big thing.

I was in DC when the cherry blossoms had bloomed back about 6 years ago. This year, I'm going to DC for Spring Break, which is  March 28th through April 3rd, and I'm looking forward to it.

@anne - Hi!!!  Thank you for the great comments =)  I admire that you travel places and write reviews about it.  My dream is to travel places and take pictures ^_^

When are you planning on coming down to the DC area?  I live in the DC area and plan on going to the Cherry Blossom Festival & Japanese Festival April 4th.  Maybe we might run into each other ^_^  Or if you see a huge group of Asian photographers... that'll most likely be us ^_^  It would be great to meet you =)

  • anne

@ImprezaGirl@xanga - I'll be there April 3-5, coming in late on the 3rd and leaving afternoon on the 5th (not taking any days off of work).

I've been to so many amazing places, but if I absolutely had to pick, I'd settle on a couple places to shorten the list. Madrid, Spain because that's where I did my study abroad program when I was 18 and it was there that the travel bug bit me so hard it left a scar. I haven't been the same since. And Vietnam. That's where my family is from. Although, I'm Vietnamese American, I never actually visited Vietnam until I was 26. It was an awesome experience to learn about my family's history and I was quite pleased to show off my vietnamese language skills to the locals. It's quite a big deal for an american-born.
