    Go See The David

Something every single person simply must add to their bucket list is seeing Michelangelo's The David. Go see it sooner rather than later. In fact, go to Florence (Firenze), Italy right now and see. Go on, book your tickets, I'll wait.

Now, I say this because it is of the utmost importance that you see the David. I've visited a few places over the years and most sights underwhelm me. Maybe it's living in New York, maybe I'm just jaded in general, but most sights to me are just a building or just a painting or just a statue. I'm still glad I saw it to see it, but I'm ready to move on rather quickly. This is not the case the The David. The David was a life changing experience.

When you first walk into the building where The David is held there are lots of rather typical works of Renaissance art. Paintings that feel common if you've been to a few museums lately, and if you're in Florence you probably have been. But then you step out of the first chamber and into a hallway.

When I stepped into that hallway I felt different, something came over me and there was The David at the end of this grand hall. And it was breathtaking. There is no other word for it. I nearly fell to my knees in awe. Do yourself a favor go and see this masterpiece and forget the expectations, forget what I've told you and experience it for yourself.

We don't experience enough truly great art. This is an unforgettable one.

What other great sights or works of art have you seen while traveling? Have you been to Italy?

I've only been to one place outside of my home country, which was very similar to home anyway. The art they have there is more cultural and sacred than the famous well known type, which is what keeps it under wraps and away from exploitation, I guess.

I'll get to Italia one day.

Already seen the David, and practically everything else in Florence (as well as Rome).  Heh heh heh.

When I went to Italy, we did indeed see the David. I got a magnet of it, too. Probably the hugest statue I have seen in my life, not counting fountains. I think I felt slightly guilty about staring at his penis though, lol... awful, but I guess I'm a little immature (or was, who knows). I would love to go back to Italy.

I have visited Rome, Vatican, and Milan in Italy as part of business trips.  I want to see David.  Florence, Venice, Silicy are some of the places I want to see also.

Dang, when I saw that, I couldn't believe it was that big (thats what she said).  That orange ninja turtle totally outdid himself.

I'm an art history student, so I hear a lot about painting in their current environments, and there are 2 famous, well known works of art that every art history professor I've ever had has commented on:

Mona Lisa: completely underwhelming, smaller than expected, behind so much glass that you can barely see it.

Michelangelo's David: absolutely and completely breathtaking. I've heard from every art teacher ever: you need to see it to feel it, that it was the most awe-inspiring piece they'd ever witnessed.

So it is definitely on my list of things to see.
