  • Is it Safe to Fly?

In the last month, there have been two plane crashes in the United States, one over the Hudson River and the other in Buffalo, New York. It's no wonder it made a lot of people a little apprehensive about flying.

Is flying safe? In this article I read, flying is still considered a lot safer than driving a car. In fact, the leading cause of death in the United States is caused by health related issues as stated in the article:

The leading causes of death in the United States don’t have anything to do with what type of transportation you take, but with your health. The leading cause of death is heart disease, followed closely by cancer.

Did hearing about these recent plane crashes give you the fear of flying?

i hav alwayz hatid flying evin azza chyld azzan adult well letz just say ive had my share of mid air trauma so fuk no

    you fly you die

no, that would be an irrational fear. the recent crashes are scary, no doubt, but not "likely" considering the number of flights across the US every single day. you're more likely to die from something of your own doing (i.e. health-related), or from everyday activities like driving.

flying is safer than driving cause theres not a lot of planes in the sky and you dont get traffic or crazy drivers.

it doesnt bother me about the recent incidents, i still fly especially if i have to.  i always fly singapore airlines and so far they have a really good record (no accidents or landings that i know of).  i trust singapore airlines their the best.

i've never had a problem with flying, and i've been up in the air a good portion of my life. it's not even exciting to me anymore. :(

i think the biggest problem that people have with flying is that they don't feel like the master of their own situation, because they're completely in the hands of the pilot and crew.

when you drive a car, you can always tell yourself that you're safe because you won't do anything wrong. sadly, the other drivers will.

nope, never been afraid of flying... the chances of crashing are very low and even if you crash, the staff are trained in how to react. also i've flown so much i've pretty much memorized those safety manuals =P

  • hellowookie@xanga

Nope.... there have been 2 crashes.. out of millions and millions of flights. The chances of your plane crashing are way less than the chances of getting in a car accident on the street that you live on.

    without God's protection
Satan can get you anywhere anyplace

  • Jacykid@xanga

    Erm... still ok
If you are the time to die, you cant ignore it
If The God still want you to live, you cant die too!~

It's scary that two planes have crashed recently but flying is still the safest form of traveling.

I'm going to Florida in like 2-3 weeks and I'm very excited but also kind of paranoid. I feel safe flying, but I'm always going to wonder if I'll make it safely! Which I most definitely should and will.

    i don't know.

you can crash in a car, even a few times in a row, and not get hurt.  you crash in a plane?   good luck.   how is that safer?

I don't listen to the whole "flying is safer than driving/you're more
likely to die in a car crash" because they're not at all on the same
level. I have a pretty bad fear of flying, and I never go anywhere because of it (which sucks), but it is dangerous. A car and a plane are not at all similar. At least the car is on the ground and if you crash, it happens instantly. You also have much better chances of surviving it. When a plane crashes, you're falling through the sky (how is that not absolutely terrifying?), and hitting the ground. Not exactly a good way to go. And you most likely will go.

Although I really do want to travel a lot in my life. I'll have to jump on a plane sometime. But that's what Xanax is for. Ha.

Flying... makes me nervous.  I don't like it.  And it doesn't matter how many times you tell me the statistics, it won't help.  So what if only a few planes crash?  What if I'm one of the few?

I've been to so many amazing places, but if I absolutely had to pick, I'd settle on a couple places to shorten the list. Madrid, Spain because that's where I did my study abroad program when I was 18 and it was there that the travel bug bit me so hard it left a scar. I haven't been the same since. And Vietnam. That's where my family is from. Although, I'm Vietnamese American, I never actually visited Vietnam until I was 26. It was an awesome experience to learn about my family's history and I was quite pleased to show off my vietnamese language skills to the locals. It's quite a big deal for an american-born.
