  • The Awesome Bvlgari Hotel and Resort in Bali, Indonesia

    Guest post submitted by black_lie

In Bali, Indonesia, we stayed at Bvlgari Hotels and Resorts Bali. Who knew that jewelry chain stores could run resorts too?

Here is a photo of the resort

Let's start at the beginning. We booked our tickets with Cathay Airlines, but we did it too late so there were no seats left in economy. We were forced to take first-class tickets... and the chairs are something else! They are not the normal side-by-side airplane seats. Instead, they are stacked next to each other at an angle. I would upload pictures but the Internet here sucks even though we paid for it (what's up with that?!). There is a divider between each person.

On one's right, one can pull out a TV screen, a remote/game controller, a twisty lamp, noise-canceling headphones, and a table. There is also a universal outlet. On one's left, one can put a drink. There is a footrest at the end of the seat, under which one can stow items up to five pounds. When the seat is fully reclined, the footrest becomes the end of, basically, a futon. That's right, when the seat is fully reclined it becomes a bed. You get two pillows and a blanket.

The airplane food in first class was exceptional, as usual. We have traveled so often in first class that the extravagant meals seem normal now.

We landed in Denpasar, Indonesia. Woohoo! First time south of the equator! The airport had a temple with a moat attached. What?!

Here's a photo found on the internet of the airport.

We were driven to the resort. We saw lots of stray dogs, chickens, and cows on the way. Moo. Stray cows.

We arrived at the resort and entered by way of a big fancy veranda on top of a hill, which was on top of a cliff overlooking the sea. Great view, very breezy.

We were taken to see our suites, which have a private swimming pool, a jacuzzi or two, indoor showers, outdoor showers, huge beds, exotic fruits, beautiful flowers, "free" internet, cute little swallows wheeling about and almost flying into your face at times, monkey neighbors (For real. We are warned not to leave things, especially food, outside, and to close all doors when leaving the suite), and the most mind blowing view ever. Our suite sits right on the edge of the cliff, so if you go outside you can look down 300 meters and see the beautiful ocean and watch the waves crash on the beach (Apparently Indonesia is a great surfing destination), which you need an elevator to get to.

The first thing we did was go swimming. The public pool is beautiful. Below are some photos found on the internet of one of the resort's pools.

We are going to go snorkeling tomorrow and I am really excited because I have only snorkeled in the Pacific once.

And dinner tonight for six people was 3,990,050 rupiah. That's about 440 USD. The exchange rate is ridiculous!

One more thing! Usually in a nice hotel they leave chocolate on your pillow in the evening when they ready your bed for sleep. Here they left us a note about the Hindu religion and a pentatonic xylophone.

Have you stayed in a nice resort before? Where would you visit?

Wow!  Paradise!  Such beautiful pictures!  Hope you get to take a kyak tour through the sea caverns too.  I've never done it myself.  I just read about it a few years ago.  But I could be confused.  It might have been Thailand too.  What is a pentatonic xylophone?  Is that some sort of a musical instrument?  What did they say about it?  Personally, I'd write a note back asking for chocolate next time.  I'm a fiend for that stuff.

I just went to Bali last September and it is such an awesome island that I vow I'll be back again! awww your pictures are lovely. The beach isn't so great though in my opinion, but the uniqueness of this island and the culture of the people are what make Bali a great holiday destination :)

Wow great pics! I've always wanted to go to Bali. This makes it even more enticing...

@Ampbreia@xanga - it's a xylophone (an instrument) that plays in the pentatonic scale rather than the major scale, which Westerners are more used to. Haha I preferred the xylophone over chocolate, I don't really like chocolate

@thesmittenmitten@xanga - we only spent four days there so we didn't get to experience much of the culture =(

@jenniferp84@xanga - thanks, but they're not my pictures, actually. When I wrote this post the Internet at the resort was terribly slow. Here are some of my own pictures from Bali:

The resort looks wonderful and having travelled to Bali twice before I bet you had an amazing time. It’s funny that you mentioned the airport as me and my friend were surprised when we first arrived there. It is almost like the airport has been built around an old temple.
The swimming pool looks so beautiful although it would have been nice to see a few pictures of the beach. What beach area was it? Near Kuta Beach?
It is so true what you said about the currency. When we first got there we all became instant millionaires when It came time to pay our 2 week hotel bill!
