  • My First College Visit

    Guest post submitted by its_me_katie

My first college visit was overall, awesome. When I first got there, there was an overwhelming sense of ... just, calmness. A&M wasn't in a hectic, urban city like the University of Texas. It wasn't filled with cool, fashionable people that I might not be able to relate to. It was just a school, a very cozy, comfortable atmosphere. It was filled with people I know I would like already. I liked that.

    The road there

The first thing I did was talk to the guy I had been e-mailing with. He was the dean or assistant dean or something of the Liberal Arts department.

His office building was nice and had the most amazing windows. I say this because it overlooked this clean, non-glued-up-by-black-stuff highway, and the biggest field of flowers I've ever seen. In addition, everything was nice, from the marble floors to the snazzy font the front sign was in (yes, I'm a big dork and I take notice to these things).

Then, he took me to the language liberal arts building, because I had expressed interest in spanish culture.

He took me to the professor or something of hispanic studies. At first, her office was filled with people. I was like, what? Did I pick a busy day to come...? But no, all the kids were there just to simply hang out. I was amazed- they were just chilling in couches eating popcorn talking to both the secretary and the professor. She was giving everyone hugs. In her office, too! The happiness and warmth basically radiated off this big, smiley, lovable person.

She talked to me about hispanic studies and how it was great that now I know four languages. But after seeing all the course work I got super nervous and admitted I was more into the culture of latin america than the language. Which is true! And she didn't get mad or anything, instead she commenced and said the world needed more open minded people like me.

Yeah, I know I'm selfishliy building myself up in all of these talks, but you know. :P

Anyway, that's a quick summary of my first college visit.

Have you ever traveled to visit a college? What was it like? What college was it? Did you end up going there, eventually?

A&M is a good school!  You'll like it there :)

I visited two schools during my Senior year.  One was because my friend wanted to go there and didn't want to visit alone.  I ended up enrolling there, and she didn't.

However, I transferred out of there to Wheaton, the school I am currently at, and I didn't visit here until after I had applied to transfer and whatnot.  I was going solely based on what I knew of it from close family and friends who had and still do attend. I love it!
