Backpacking Vs. All-Inclusive

When traveling abroad, which do you prefer: backpacking, or all-inclusive packages?

all-inclusive packages, however we dont stop around the hotel 24/7, we go to places during the day and be back for lunch time the hotel.
Sometimes it has been quite useful having all-inclusive packages because our last holiday in October not many eating places were open because of the time of year.
Give me a backpack and a couple friends and I am in heaven! I love to just wander around aimlessly when I travel meeting the locals, hopping on a bus or train with no idea where the end destination is and discovering all those things the tour guides try to keep me from seeing..... I love entering all the "do not enter" areas and basically taking things as they come.... I am just not a neatly scheduled, canned vacation, type person.... I would rather stay home than take a packaged vacation....
I don't have a preference at all. I've done both and I love it =) I like to mix it up.
i've never really done either but backpacking sounds like fun (:
