Yes We Can! The US Has a New President!!
by Molly
Today, January 20, 2009, marks the historical inauguration of the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama. The United States of America has seen the last day of George W. Bush in office, and we look forward to newer and brighter days behind President Obama.

After being sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts in front of a crowd of 2 million people, Obama went on to give another one of his historical speeches. He remarked that the US is in for a long battle against the many problems that we face, but that we will not give up and we will bravely fight the forces that oppose us. He made sure to reiterate the "realness" of the problems that will face our nation, but proclaimed that:
We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.
He went on to say:
To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.
His words were well-received by the crowd, though they offered a more somber tone than his acceptance speech after the election was won.
Although, very little could put a damper on this day, as we watch our first African-American president be sworn in as president of the United States of America.
Congratulations to our new president, Barack Obama!!
Did you watch the inauguration? What did you think of it?

This was the first one I have ever watched on television (I live in the UK) I thought it was very good.
Congratulations Barack Obama
Yes, I watched at home. It would have been awesome to be in DC though.
oh yeah... Yes we can!
I cried! President Obama is so humble & inspiring. He embraced his enemies & gave praise to everyone who got him where he is today. That's something I never see in politics. His administration is gonna rock! The world is watching & cheering, that's something you dont see very often either. EVERYONE is happy for this man!
I'm so excited!

I watched it and thought it was terrific. It's a very exciting time in U.S. history and I am excited to see where these next four years take us.
I watched a little of it. Including when he took the oath. Honestly, i was terrified. I don't look at his skin, I look at his views and they scare me.
@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - Not the 47% of Americans that voted for McCain.
