Alternative to Hotels - Couch Crashing?
Guest post submitted by kmiahali@healthkicker
Hotels are places people stay when they are just visiting, traveling, vacationing, or don't have a permanent place to stay, right?Well, there is a feasible alternative to hotels in this day and age and this may sound crazy to some, but there is a new website that recently came about called Airbed&breakfast.com.
It is pretty much an online market where people can list their guest rooms, beds, and even their couches on the site for a low rate.

The listings can easily be viewed by others who have an account and are looking to spend their vacation with a local and want to stay in a place where they might feel comfortable. I personally thought that it was insane and unsafe.
After checking it out further, I found that it was not. Travelers could search listings for accommodations that are just right. They can then book the room via credit card. The host can view the guest's profile and decide if the guest is appropriate. A Facebook or a Myspace can be hooked up to get to know the person thoroughly before any transaction.
Would you ever try this to save a little extra cash? Do you think it is safe?

Hey, it just seems like an online market for bed and breakfasts. Usually the bed and breakfasts are run out of a person's home. As with any travel method, I definitely think some safety precautions should be taken into consideration such as making sure you know who you are staying with.
Even better alternative to hotels- camping.
Cheaper, cleaner (You know who's slept in your bed, and how clean everything is depends on you, not someone you've never met!) and each campground is different- unlike hotels where I swear they all have the same bedspreads.
And actually, even less problems with bugs...as long as you keep everything shut tight you don't have a problem with them. I hate spiders, and I've never found one in my tent- regardless of the fact I can't count the amount of times I've gone camping. Whereas I've found tons of roaches in the few hotels I've stayed in.
Two other friends and I stayed in an old lady's house when we were in Prague. She was really nice and had a little pug that was quite friendly. She gave us a key and didn't cook for us or anything, but it was much cheaper than staying in a hotel and we didn't have to share a bathroom with twenty million other hostel visitors.
hey it sounds better than the global freeriders, i forget the website now but it's basically the same thing but free...
couchsurfing.com
I've always wanted to do this sort of thing, but have been too afraid to.
I have opened up my couch for a near-stranger. A person who frequents a small forum with me decided to take on a mission of seeing the whole US by literally crashing at people's houses and asking for rides to the next destination. It was very involved, he had people sign up, mentioning they had a place he could crash for 3 days and offering a mile radius they'd be willing to drive him.
In the end, though, he ended up not stopping by my city.
Hi,can someone tell we the url of the global freeriders website. Can't find it. Cheers, Liz
